I've been watching Teahupoo last week, simply mesmerising.. would take some big nads to go out in this;

Watching some of those waves makes me shiver but is awesome to watch. There is more water in one of those waves than 4 of our kitchen sinks.

You must have big sinks, this photo shows how this wave sucks the water off the shallow reef to below sea level..

I don't follow. I am saying there is less water in 4 of our sinks.
I am intrigued by the shape of water going over. I appreciate it's often just the position of the camera but sometimes it looks like the water is doing weird things.

Yes the water/wave is warping and contorting due to the shallow reef, it does funny stuff when being sucked in to a vortex with crazy force..

Something that constantly amazes me is the wave is breaking and it's ginormous but just a little bit further along the wave doesn't break and you have a gaggle of people on boards, jet-skis and photographers just idly watching this wall of water crashing down just over there.

It's deeper where the boats are. Since the wave is coming in at an angle they are further from shore than the break point.

I've taken a handful of photos of Haru early in the morning at what is basically golden hour and they always come out majestic-looking like this where the sunlight just illuminates the edge of his coat.
