I guess you missed the part where I said "BRZ reviews". There's been plenty on this forum about how the 2 cars may be tuned differently and even have different suspension configurations so separate reviews are needed (and are coming in about two weeks, according to a few GR86 reviewers yesterday).

^Yes, Jalopnik said they'll get the same opportunity from Subaru in about two weeks.

It would be hilarious if all the GRs driven had the Subaru parts setup, and they drive the BRZ and say how different it is.

Anyone know if the BRZ will have built-in nav on the higher trim? It doesn't look like either of the twins will as it's not mentioned in recent press releases...

That's a great question. I plan on just using Android auto with my favorite map app. Apple carplay can do the same.

gonna guess most cars now rely on your phone apps to provide navigation...easy choice since they dont have to design anything extra into the head unit nor support any updates in the future.

^ I don't use my mobile much so it doesn't have data. Anyways there are still areas in northern Ontario with spotty cell coverage so I'd rather not have to rely on it.

Still trying to dig for an answer on nav, hopefully can let you know soon. But fwiw, Google Maps allows you to download regions to your phone so you don't need cell reception for nav. You'll lose traffic updates, etc, but it's a great option.

Most major map apps have this option (Apple doesn’t, but Google and Here do). If you have a decently large internal drive in your phone I’d recommend storing your area either way, it can reduce your data use and speed up the response of the app too.

Yes, I forgot you don't need cell reception for your phone's GPS positioning to work.

Am I correct in thinking that you could access cell-free nav through the Android Auto interface so you'd see it on the infotainment screen and hear directions through the car's sound system? Because using nav strictly on a mobile when driving is a PITA.

Generally yes.
Sometimes if there's no cell reception some minor things don't work (e.g. you might not be able to search for some things), but in general it works.

To put it into perspective, my car is parked in a garage where I have neither cell nor GPS, and I usually don't have issues starting navigation to most places I go to.

I know we have someone in here that works at a dealership, were you ever able to confirm that the BRZ Limited gets an upgraded stereo?

If so, does the higher trim GR86 get a better stereo as well?

From what I understand, the limited comes with two extra mid-range speakers and an amp. It's not a Rockford Fosgate or Harmon Kardon system.

If the amp is limited only, that could make a huge difference. Much more than the 2 extra speakers.
