Totally get it. Shit, I don't go anywhere. It's a bummer but the adjustments are, IMO, a healthy, respectful response to an evolving threat. Isn't that simply living the example?

Sure

"At 5 and 30 minutes, no major changes in end-tidal CO2 or oxygen saturation as measured by pulse oximetry of clinical significance were noted at any time point in either group at rest (Table 1). With the 6-minute walk, subjects with severe COPD decreased oxygenation as expected (with two qualifying for supplemental oxygen). However, as a group, subjects with COPD did not exhibit major physiologic changes in gas exchange measurements after the 6-minute walk test using a surgical mask, particularly in CO2 retention."

study that visually shows how much easier spread occurs sans mask vs a cloth covering, vs a surgical mask, vs n95
"We now examine a homemade mask that was stitched using two-layers of cotton quilting fabric consisting of 70 threads/in. The mask’s impact on droplet dispersal is shown in Fig. 4. We observe that the mask is able to arrest the forward motion of the tracer droplets almost completely. There is minimal forward leakage through the material, and most of the tracer-escape happens from the gap between the nose and the mask along the top edge. "

"Only modest differences in vaccine effectiveness were noted with the delta variant as compared with the alpha variant after the receipt of two vaccine doses. Absolute differences in vaccine effectiveness were more marked after the receipt of the first dose. This finding would support efforts to maximize vaccine uptake with two doses among vulnerable populations. (Funded by Public Health England.)"

My beliefs are fluid based on what data says. Data changes and I adjust my beliefs accordingly.

If your knowledge of the pandemic comes from fox news/journalists you're doing yourself a disservice. If you do want to rely on news, it would be rather easy to deduce that the majority of hospitalizations right now in the U.S are in states with the lowest vaccination rates and the majority of those hospitalized are unvaccinated.

I empathize, and it's annoying because it isn't living. It's defensive and counter to the human spirit of a mere 18 months ago. Our lives can't be defined by the dictates of those who live in fear or stand to benefit from their decrees. It can't be allowed to become the new Flat Earth mindset.

Airline pilot, huh.

Hey, I totally get it. At one time one a concierge where my parents used to live, who parked your car for you was an ear, nose and throat specialist. Ironically he was parking the cars of other doctors that lived in the building.

I do actually know a fighter pilot. The point stands for the character.

Flew a P35? Oh wait, that's probably even too old for you.

F16, F18, F22, F35 or some old shit off an aircraft carrier?

They'll be replaced with AI for the 6th gen onward anyway. They can work in an office like the rest of us and not risk life and limb. Imagine?

I'd actually find your blacking out believable.

Anyway, from being a close friend of this guy and his crew like I've posted previously. A thoroughly likable bunch of hooligans off-duty, well rounded, professional and far more competent than most on-duty. He made a splash at my local airport one day when he flew up to visit in a NASA T-38 and later departed under military power, a rare occurrence at an uncontrolled airfield. One of his space missions was the first I saw live...unforgettable.

Why do NASA people always fly T-38s ? Is that the aircraft they use to maintain their flight skills? Nothing else with a higher performance envelope without armament of some sort kicking around perhaps. Methinks the tiger was derived from the F-5 Freedom Fighter which was a relatively inexpensive export aircraft not used for combat in the US. Canada used it for NATO operations between the F104 Starfighter and F-18s time. Our most recent fighter aircraft are F-18s from Australia, some low hours and others for parts. Not sure.what the holdup is but probably whether adopting the F-35s will fit our needs, which are NATO and sovereignty related stuff. Maybe they didn't want to buy the first MY in case it had crickets.
Some astronauts can be cool for sure, like Marc Garneau who is laid back but on the ball for sure. Then there's Julie Payette whose strong character made the office staff so miserable that she was fired as our Governor General, which is Canada's consult to the queen since we are part of the British commonwealth so she is actually our queen as well technically. Anyway, the lady astronaut was a bitch and it's well documented.

Press conference including senior representatives from all the major medical systems in the Atlanta Metro area. They go over the stats of what they are seeing, including a wider age spread (Children's Healthcare is there). There is discussion of other respiratory viruses that are combining to make the net effect worse.
