Easily explains why auto still falls behind the manual a decent bit on top of the added weight. But also pretty impressive. I recall several folks complaining about the auto being slow for modern times, but this should explain why.

Many auto Gen1 owners that wanted improved acceleration bumped up to a 4.3, 4.56, or even higher for quite a noticeable acceleration improvement. This will be even more noticeable now coming from a 3.9 and having a greatly improved torque curve. Shouldn't be much to complain about for the auto-choosers this time around. Or for those that keep it stock, it will probably get somewhat similar MPG's to current gen, which is also nice.
The long gears are also good for those who decide to go turbo.

These are the real sacrifices made to keep NA. You need long gearing to get the desired fuel economy vs a smaller turbo motor. Auto customers are more likely to care about MPGs so the autos get the long gears.

That said, I wouldn’t trade an NA 2.4 for let’s say a boosted 1.6. In this kind of car the throttle response is just so worth it.

The rear diffuser will be available here.
Sounds like I should stop in at the dealership in person instead of going back and forth via email.

Personally, I don't care that much who is behind the new car. If it carries most of Tada-san's spirit and improves in areas without going too expensive, then this is what it matters.

i've been talking to a dealership and they have indicated that the brz limited does come with upgraded audio but what exactly that entails is unclear

Most probable scenario is that the premium/ limited share the same breakdown as the Toyota base/premium.

So my guess: premium 6 speakers, limited 8 speakers.

IDK if these links were posted earlier or not, or if subaru just added them to the press release site

but here's the finalized specs:

Order placed - Red Premium! Same color I ordered 2013. ETA-November.
I remember back in the day when we were ordering 2013 we had Tracking system including tracking of the ships that was fun! May be somebody can kick this off!
Now wait starts - good thing I have current one to enjoy in a meantime!
