Rev limiter not working

2014 FRS. I drive it hard, but never got close to over-reving. Yesterday I got careless and looked down to see the tach approaching 7800. I sure don't want to do that again. I think the limiter should activate at 75 or 76 at the most. I'm running a stage 1 OFT tune with E85. The folks at OFT say they didn't change it. I'm about to add a Borla catless header and Beck flow- through catted front pipe. That will entail another tune. Not sure how to approach the limiter problem.

Stock limiter is 7400. Plug in your OFT and compare what it is reading to your tach.

Full throttle in 1st, slightly distracted by traffic. Really stupid. I've never hit the rev limiter before, but I've never wound it more than about 7200, so never knew it wasn't working. I set the warning light for 6800, but generally try to stop at 6500. The light has been working, but didn't come on either, so I suspect it got reset somehow. I reset it again, but didn't make a note of where it was. I think it was 7100. There's supposed to be an audible alarm, which I have set to on, but I've never heard it.

I didn't even know there was an audible alarm.

You weren't into the limiter so I don't think there is an issue except for checking the audible alarm. I run 7600rpm and have had no issues and sit the car on the limiter on occasion for a few seconds. I ran 7800 for years.

NoHaveMSG: IIRC with ignition ON (but not running engine) one can adjust extra things on dash, eg. custom rpms for red blinking light near top of tachometer and extra optional beep for that and also gear display on older twins (of laggy implementation though, as gear is not detected, but calculated from wheel speed sensors vs rpms to decide in which gear by that ratio long after gear switch).
But if you really rev car out near redline and floor it, that beep is hard to hear, not much use. That blinking red light also is arguable, as when you really push imho one spends more attention on road (track) ahead, and tachometer at most with some peripheral vision but rather goes "by sound". Also at lower gears warning light at rpms close to redline is very quickly reached, at high gears with much slower acceleration there is way more time till redline after start of blinking, which imho reduces a bit usability of that light if one uses it as one of cues + same preset time interval after it starts blinking, to upshift.

OFT folks suggest it's tach error, which had occurred to me, but that would be quite a few revs off. It's much too hot here to be in my garage this PM, so later I'll hook up the OFT and see what it tells me.

New header goes on next week and OFT has sent me a tune for it. They assure me the limiter is there, Red light is working now, and I heard the beep alarm, but it's much too feeble to hear over engine noise, even on the street.

Might be tach error. When I was logging for Ecutek tuning doing 3rd gear pulls to redline, the logs read up to 7800 rpm.

Actually I find them quite helpful. Everything has to be by email. No phones. I think they are extremely busy and work what appears to be strange overnight hours. Every time I have sent a message I have received a reply the next day.

BTW, if you are unaware the rev limiter on an OFT tune is much different then your typical rev limiter. It doesn't sit there and 'bounce' with the engine going 'ding ding ding'.
The car simply stops accelerating.

That's very good info. I didn't know that. I guess it's possible I hit the limiter and didn't realize it. I have a high degree of confidence in the red light because I always see it in my peripheral. I'm glad it's set back to where I want it. I plan to go and sin no more.
