The factor that brought that severe accident penalty down is the fact that it was lap 1. In the middle of a race it would have been a 20sec stop and go.
I know what Lewis was trying to do. He was making his car wider to make Max back out. And if Max didnt, he would crash. He was that far off the apex on purpose. Classic Senna move. And when youre up against a car with a lot more straight line speed, that is what you have to do. Be a barricade. Max turned in... let me say that again. MAX TURNED IN on Lewis. Classic Max. Lewis was where he was on purpose, and Max thought wrong about the situation. Why is nobody talking about Lewis's last 10 laps? Were you paying attention? You guys are missing one of the greats.

He usually doesn't. His decision making has gotten better over the last couple years but it is going to take a couple more before his early reputation washes off.

Depending on how Max reacts to what happened, it has the potential to be an interesting rest of the season. I have my tickets for Austin.

I remember AJ Foyt once saying after getting punted by Gordon Johncock, “If Gordy wants to play fuckin bumper cars, we’ll play fuckin bumper cars.”

I would really like to see a good comparison/analysis between Verstappens line through Copse and Leclerc's when Hamilton passed him. They look pretty similar to me.

It was in an IROC race at one of the ovals - Talladega or Daytona. . They ran two sprint races more or less back to back. Johncock punted Foyt in the first one. In the second Foyt was ahead of Johncock; he slowed enough to let GJ get ahead of him, waited until they got onto the backing got good run going and slammed into the back of GJ's car. Backed off and did it again. Second time Johncock spun up into the wall. As he was sliding down the track Foyt ducked underneath him and went by with his finger out the window.
When I was a kid I knew Foyt ever so slightly. In my memory he was not a very nice guy. I was just some shop rat hanging around but he tolerated me - a little. His dad was a really cool guy.

Hopefully, this will check off that bucket list item for me.

Let me restate what others have said. Remember, I’ve raced karts, cars, motorcycles, have been the president of a professional racing association as well as Clerk of the Course for an F.I.A. sanctioned international racing event. There are two cardinal rules that LH 44 broke.
Number 1: You do not complete a pass unless it can be done safely. Number 2: You must be clearly ahead of your competitor before you can say you have the corner. I do not know what rule Toto was quoting but its complete Bull Snot! How da FRACK is a driver to know if his competitor’s front axle is behind, even with or ahead of the midpoint of his car when concentrating on his braking, turn in, and exit? All while traveling 170+ miles per hour I might add. LH 44 fans think he got the dirty end of the stick with 2 points on his license. Furthermore, they are gloating that he overcame the 10 second slap on the wrist for the win. Here’s one thought that I’ve not seen yet. What do you think would have happened if it had been MV 33 going up the inside of LH 44? You all know that MV would have needed armed guards to leave the country. The stewards would have thrown the book at him. Every one of his past mistakes would have been rehashed. He probably would have got at least a one race ban if not more. And you all know that would have been true! Because, sir LH 44 is the G.O.A.T. (god of all things) Before everyone jumps down my throat for that last comment please take a moment to think about it. I’m referring to the fact that most people see him as not able to do any wrong. Whether its environmental issues, race relations, equality for all, fashion, you name it he personally, his name or partners are involved in it somehow. |

I hope Verstappen comes back from this stronger than ever and takes the Championship. I'd love to see him clinch it in Austin. Not that I'm a fanboi, I'm not. There are a lot of guys I rather see win the whole enchilada; DR, or Seb, Lando or Sergio Perez to name only a few. But none have a shot - not this year. Not that I have an axe to grind against Lewis - he's one of the most talented drivers in history. I just want someone else to win the Championship this time. I'm hoping we see an even more determined, but fair minded, Max in Hungary.
