Any PC Gamers Around?

Any thoughts on the Steam Deck? My wife convinced me to put a reservation in ‘Cause I don’t want to hear it if you can’t get one’. I ended up reserving the 256 version.

I play mostly on the couch so when the kids are hogging the TV a handheld would be nice. I wonder if a gamestream client will be available too.

I looked at it, and didn't see anything I would use it for. I do on a rare occasion use Steam Link to play some casual games on our 75" OLED TV which is nice (ex. Jackbox games).

I have the hardware version and also have sideloaded it onto a Firestick.

Since I don't particularly like playing games with a controller both options have limited use for me.

Any PC Gamers Around?

So I’m getting a sporadic failure to post after swapping motherboards 2 months ago. It seems to be getting worse very slowly.

Almost every cold boot attempt, it will get stuck on a blank screen with the American megatrends logo, nothing else. No F-key prompts, no response to keyboard inputs, nothing. Pressing the reset button resets it and then 9 times out of 10 it boots normally. Once in windows it’s rock solid, stress testing the CPU, GPU, or memory shows no faults or errors.

Any ideas? Google has failed me. Ive tried clearing CMOS, reflashing Bios, reassembling the whole computer, removing ram sticks, nothing helps. I’ve got a motherboard speaker coming in the Mail to see if it throws post beep codes. If that doesn’t get me any new info I’m going to replace the MB probably.

Gigabyte Aorus B550i mini ITX
Ryzen 3800X
ASUS 2080 super
Oloy 3200mhz DDR4
Phanteks 750W PSU

typically, post errors are going to be limited to bios/motherboard, cpu, and memory. graphics card shouldn't affect it, nor should the power supply.

if it's freezing on the AM logo, i'm doubtful that it's getting far enough along to throw the beep code, but doesn't hurt to try

Did you try any other ram or processor? When I first built my PC I had a post issue but it was the RAM.

Might as well try another GPU as well. Test out all the parts. Make sure you are not just testing one part.

I don’t really suspect the ram or GPU, or cpu, since this all started when I switched the mobo. I don’t have spare parts to test with unfortunately. It’s just such a weird failure, and really hard to reproduce

Have you turned on the the option to show basically "verbose startup" in your motherboard settings (not sure what it's called on your motherboard)? This will give you an old school startup that shows steps and may give you a hint where it's stopping. Usually if you are getting a logo this isn't turned on.

Interesting you bring that up. I’ve had that on since day one. I just prefer the verbose mode over the boot logo.

On a whim I left it off after reflashing the bios. Everything else is the same. Now I can’t get it to misbehave. Maybe Gigabyte’s bios has a bug in verbose mode? What? I know this sounds crazy.

I had a Dell XPS that used to take way longer to get through verbose mode than logo mode. It would get hung up on RAID mode, even though I wasn't using RAID. It took about two minutes to get through that for some reason, waiting for something to time out I suppose.
