Some of the more complicated modules and parts are supplied by Japanese suppliers and these components are highly priced components... justifying the wages in Japan. So the simple to manufacture parts are usually done South East Asia, especially the global cars.
With the Zupra, its a BMW except for the badge, which was imported from a Toyota supplier. Some said Toyota designed the suspension, but not really, its sourced and sub-contracted from one of the big suspension OEMs off the shelf with minor tweaks. Even the suspension structure is BMW, so the Zupra is pretty much a BMW.

But going back to the point, the GR86 is VERY disappointing its staying as 5x100... even the GR Yaris is 5x114.3.
Not for me! I get to put my wheels on it if I ever decide to buy one.

Subaru's STI is also 114.3x5 and they UPDATED the WRX to also make it 114.3x5 since the 2015. So Subaru keeping the 100x5 on the BRZ is economically a bad decision. Common design, common components mean better economic of scale... cheaper.

And modding your wheel hub is likely to void your warranty.
If something happens to your engine, they aren't going to deny your warranty because you changed your hubs lol. Not a bad decision because the twins have amongst the most aftermarket support so you have your swaps for people that are desperate for 114.3 which I don't get since most styles have 5x100 variants, they keep price down for us folks and as timurr pointed out 1st gen owners can swap their wheels for 2nd gen.

This may have been answered already, but is the 18” forged? The info from the site does not make it clear.

Exactly. I'm sorry the other dude bought wheels for a car from another manufacturer that won't fit this one - but I for one am glad the wheels I bought for my current FR-S will fit the new 86.

Early info said they were forged, but that was later amended to say they’re cast.

June Presser says alloy: https://pressroom.toyota.com/drivers...all-new-gr-86/

July BRZ Final Pricing Presser says alloy as well: https://media.subaru.com/pressreleas...l-new-2022-brz

But then, a presser from PRNewsWire from Toyota says forged: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301303429.html

There was some discussion that they might be forged. I think someone got clarification that they are forged, but perhaps they kept them alloy for cost reasons.

I remember some discussion like this, but I thought that this was saying that 17” was alloy and 18 forged, when looking on prices, it shows 18” as alloy

Too much confusion on Subaru’s info so far

would be very surprised if a sub 30k car came with forged wheels from the factory. it's most likely cast.
