I haven't ordered anything on the home side recently so I can't say your experience won't be like what @Yoshoobaroo reports.

We'll see then. I won't let it get to that point as I do somewhat need it for productivity when September starts.

Eh, it’s a business laptop so YMMV. I’m going through my company’s IT department so who knows about the actual status. They take 6-12 weeks even before COVID.

That's gross, but that makes sense. Ordered a screen through work and it took long enough for me to forget about it, no real urgency.

Sounds like an internal IT issue to me. We just placed an order for 150 Dell laptops 4 weeks ago and we already have deployed a third of them.

OK, I take that back. I talked to our supplier today. Current delivery times are 45 to 60 days.

Well because I'm gluten for punishment and I've spent most of the last 40 years in Microsoft Beta Hell, I did this today. Honestly so for no big deal. I did immediately change the Task Bar to left justified rather than centered. So far, that's been the biggest issue...

It took me a little while playing with ClassicShell to get Windows 10 looking the way I wanted. The appearance of 11 makes me shudder.

I am reminded of Firefox updates. They occasionally make changes to the way it looks that do nothing to improve usability, just annoy people who like the aesthetic of the previous version. The nice thing is tweaks to about:config can usually make the appearance the same as before the update.

Honestly, in using it a couple of hours last night, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between 10 and 11. Even Control Panel is intact at this point. Yes, the corners of windows are a little more rounded, there is some transparency between windows, and the start menu shows more apps without you having to customize it, but there's nothing that makes you go "what the f@$k".

The only thing so far is I can't figure out if there is a way to make the task bar use small icons. I could always go back to hiding it (that's what I did in W7) but I've gotten used to it being persistent with small icons in W10.

If anything W11 gets rid of some of the inconsistencies where some things looked one way and some looked the other.

Hiding the task bar is gross. I've had inconsistent experiences with that shit while gaming, never again.
