Seems like something that could be gamed depending on the detail and granularity they put into it. For example, if they count connectors (screws, bolts, clips, etc) and a car has 40,000 of them (making that up) that were made in China and you bought them in the US that could move you way up on the list.

Mrs Mafia's mom is a huge supporter of a certain person who lost some voting thing last year and had the notion to make things great again or something like that. Anyway. She says she only buys american, and supports local, and screw china. What is her fav phone? iPhone. What brand is her notepad Apple. Wears an apple smartwatch. With Japanese brand electronics...

Yep, definitely need to read the whole article to understand it.

I was wondering why the Bolt wasn't listed at all until I did that. The battery and the drive trains are built in Korea so that pretty much disqualifies it.

As at the year 2021, however, all manufacturing of American smartphone brands, except for one, happen outside of the United States. There are no American-made cell phones and smartphones any more. All Apple iPhones and Google Pixel phones, for example, are manufactured in Asia.

November 2020 Update: Librem has announced a US version of their Librem 5 security-focused smartphone, called Librem 5 USA. It is made in the United States of America via a US-based supply chain for increased security. This is the only known smartphone that is manufactured in the USA in 2021.

Interesting. Since I don't change phones until mine breaks or the OS becomes obsolete (about every 5 to 6 years), I will consider a Librem next time I need a phone. I'm not heavily invested in Apps, so that isn't that important to me.

That, or they say that they buy only X manufacture when the engine is a shared production on the same assembly line, or it is a rebadged car.

It is almost impossible to buy American, but a person honestly should be impressed that Tesla is so much of their manufacturing, and soon mining, in America. Jay Leno always says that people should cut Tesla some slack because they are more American than most brands.

Oh man that was my favorite thing to do when I was working for Enterprise rental cars. One guy did not like me when I told him that his beloved Yukon Denali GMC was literally a Chevy Tahoe with a little more effort put into it.

extra effort is questionable. i say denali is just a chevy with extra chrome, pretentiousness, and leather slathered on, usefulness is optional.
