They will certainly be at least a little "better" than the first gen but I personally just can not get past that styling.

I find second gen looks better in every way over the first. Had this opinion the from first time I saw the new model.
There might be a little disconnect between the front-end and the rear-end of the car design-wise, but it's nothing major. Taillights on the first gen are one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. I think only Valenti managed to make lamps that salvage the shape. |

I like it,
I just think its lost all the personality the first gen has. But im not a fan of the interior, i dont think its really "improved" over the first gen all that much (i never really found the first gen interior that bad to begin with, on par with any other econobox of that era imo) I think I actually like BRZ more than the GR86 this go around. For the first gen i liked the 86 more than the BRZ. If i didnt get my 86 when i did back in mid-May there was a good chance i would have had a second gen car (depending on specs, price, and whether i liked first or second gen more) |

i think it looks great. i feel this happens with a lot of new cars. a number of people hate it in photos, but then have a change of heart after seeing it in person and on the streets. one example that pops to mind is the BMW Supra.

Is it just me or has this car greatly grown on me?

Eh the Supra still isn’t good looking to me. It looks fine, and I could live with the looks for the driving experience (if manual). The new 86 looks great IMO. I liked the BRZ when revealed, I like the GR86 even more. I think in the flesh people will realize that the shapes and proportions are much closer to the old one than pictures suggest. I think the GR86 looks more cohesive than the old model. The detail work is simpler and cleaner, and I think the side skirts’ aggressive sweep up ties into the duck tail spoiler very well. |

Yeah should be on this forum somewhere. Someone hacked together some kind of joystick thingy that can be installed elsewhere.

I don't disagree with this statement. The offerings out there for a new, affordable, RWD, NA, Sports Coupe are rather limited. If I was in the market last year, I would have bought one of the Gen1 twins even though there were some characteristics that I wasn't enamored with. With plans for getting into a Gen2, I'm glad the front bumper on the GR86 is not offensive to me as the one on the BRZ so I'm pretty sure at this point, that the GR86 will be my next vehicle purchase. As with any new edition introduction, I'll wait until I see it IRL before making any final decisions. Unless you're Jeff Bezos, compromises will be made. I'm one of "those guys" who pretty much never likes the new "improved" version of anything. The list of cars that have gone downhill, at least to me, is very long.
Range Rover (haven't made an attractive once sine the Ranger Rover Classic, '93-'95) BMW 3-series (stopped being attractive with the e36, and the 2002 model (model number, not year) was even prettier) Ford Mustang (hasn't been an attractive car since the 60s... when it was beautiful) BMW Z3 (Much more attractive than the Z4) Toyota Land Cruiser - prefer the look of the 60 and 80 series. The Hundys aren't bad. The new ones are gag-ariffic. Ditto the Lexus line of LX vehicles. Toyota 4runner - see Land Cruiser comments. At least the 86 twins haven't gone fool-goose angular alien insect (like almost every other car these days) and still retain some nice curved lines here and there. Every time I find a vehicle (or any product for that matter) that I like, seems like somebody "improves" it and wrecks it. Guess that's why my '13 FRS is, by far, my newest vehicle. /codger mode
