hence the reason for the piston top, if design is correct then piston cooling should be pretty even from the direct cylinder injection,

to solve the hot spot problem in the 20valve was only a matter of ceramic coating the top, we did this to our unlimited class racer,

don: do you think these pistons will need any coating on them?
I still would like to see a heat test that shows thermal heat within the cylinder.

I would feel better if the piston was coated even if its direct port

Are you working on getting rods made as well?

Don, are the OEM pistons floating or pressed wrist pin?

I believe all of the horizontally opposed Subarus use floating wrist pins. The pistons are installed in the block after the rods/crank are already assembled in the case so it would be a little difficult to press a pin in there.

dunno if this has been seen before but from what i see in this video looks like normal pistons to me compared to the direct injection 2gr-fse pistons....correct me if im wrong? cause from what i understood the pistons had to be designed a certain way to allow efficient combustion with the direct and port injection like the one rendered on page one...?

right after the 1 minute mark.....ohhh even better its right there in the pic! lol

Yup, wrong rods, wrong crank, and wrong pistons. That's an EJ reciprocating assembly.

I can't wait to find out how much PSI a bone stock motor can handle.

I would guess around 8psi is max on this engine on pump gas. Even that would have compromises in the tune to limit detonation I believe. But perhaps the DI will prevent this?

8psi with 93 or even 100 octane could be tuned for better results. But I do wonder how well this motor can resist detonation or high temps that could melt pistons.

If so, I'll be running 6-7psi until I upgrade internals.

Yes. I have never seen a subaru without a floating pin. Although I have to admit, I like a challenge when assembling!
