What a flawed assumption, but I guess anyone who thinks a singular political movement is responsible for global adoption of regulatory standards by different parties and different interests is probably oversimplifying things, to say the least. Am I to assume you're a nihilist who doesn't care about any environmental standards? Come on, try to stay above reductive nonsense.

I was wondering about this, too. I assume this is right - the autos have the rivets at all trim levels because they're part of the Subaru safety features that the manuals don't get. I also assumed those include rear parking sensors, which is unfortunate, since I'd have liked the parking sensor.

One of the videos out there talked about it, can't remember which. Automatic cars get eyesight, lane change assist, adaptive cruise, rear vehicle detection, etc. Manual cars do not.

I suspect we will also be able to get the tire pressures via OBD if they are communicated to the digital gauge cluster.

Current gen has pressure and temps via CANbus but I’ve never found a way to read them. Techstream can read them so I know it’s possible.

Oil temp, yes, you can pull it up through OBD or through a 2017+ digital cluster. Pressure no unfortunately, the pressure sensor is a dumb low pressure switch. Hopefully that changes with the 2022 but I suspect it won’t.

Yeah that would be a real treat if they could show that. But lets face it, they don't want anyone to know how shitty that pressure might be at certain temps!

Yes, there is a poster on another forum who was one of the journalists at the event.

The Toyota people told him it was 4.3, same gearing as the outgoing car.

I have nothing against the safety features. From an aesthetic standpoint, I just wish they could come up with a better way to integrate parking sensors without adding "rivets" to the bumper.

Unfortunately there really isnt a way. Unlike hiding a sensor in the front grille somewhere (which you can see when up close but cant when far away) theres nothing transparent to hide the sensors behind in the rear.

I guess you can hide them in the blackness of fake rear vents or in the diffuser or whatever "sporty" blacked out details there are, but you gotta make sure the sensors arent blocked by any of the design. But they might be too low and can be more easily damaged by road debris.

Anyone else notice the gas door resembles the Toyota 2000GT headlight?

I've had a few Lexus cars, and my '18 Tundra, with the collision avoidance systems. Not a fan. In my experience, it has created more danger than it has eliminated. That is partially due to individual driving conditions/habits, but I've have vehicles brake hard, when they shouldn't be braking. Their was TSB on the system in my truck, and they didn't like the 2.5" leveling lift on the front. I know in some cases these systems can be shut down, but am curious about possible liability issues that could happen if you were found at fault in a serious accident.

I have never experienced the Toyota system but my wife's last two cars have had the Subaru Eyesight safety systems in them. The collision avoidance in them is not intrusive at all. I experimented with the system by putting a bunch of boxes on the road and trying to hit them. The only way it activates at all is if you take absolutely zero action while headed for them. The slightest twitch of the steering or tap on the brake and they will not activate. You literally have to drive straight at something and it will not engage until it determines a collision is imminent and you are not acting. It has never come on during any driving by her or myself. All in all if you were totally oblivious to a situation and are so close to having a collision that it kicks in then there would be no time for you to react anyway.
Some of the features are really nice if you spend a lot of time on the highway. I would totally love to have the adaptive cruise and back up blind spot monitoring.

Actually, Toyota just got done with Super Taikyu Fuji 24 Hour Endurance race entering a ICE Hydrogen fuel Corolla. It’s not the Fuel Cell Electric engine like the Mirai, it actually is a ICE piston engine. It’s a modified Yaris GR 1600 3 cylinder turbo, and has a neat raspy exhaust note! And a manual transmission.

Akio Toyoda hopes to not replace all cars with electric motors, and keep some sporting variety of cars with soulful and engaging piston gas engines like this. This hydrogen converted engine does need a catalytic converter to remove Nox, but unlike gasoline or diesel, the only other emission is water vapor.

So yeah there is a God. Lol
