Only reason to get the new one is for more torque, Everything else is cosmetic and can be tweaked. As a DD the car is fun and I just don’t feel like going though taking all the mods off, returning to stock and selling. Then buying a new car and doing similar mods again. While the car is not expensive, I figure it’s somewhere in the high teens just to get the new one and not worth it for the power. But I will reserve final judgement until I can drive one and feel the power.

Yep. The whole process is a pain in the balls and that's if the dealership you buy through isn't staffed by idiots. If you are unlucky enough to have a crappy dealership on top of it all, ugggh.

I'm keeping my 2013 and will probably swap in the new engine once used motors become available and the professionals have written up guides and created the parts for a plug and play swap.

I'm counting on the gen 2 being prohibitively expensive in the EU to keep my gen 1's value high :-p

As far as OP I would not have bought a '20 if the gen. 2 was on my mind. Best bet would have been:
-Wait 18 months and get a gen. 2 once the first issues have been ironed out or at least identified
-get a used '15-16 for a lot cheaper

Get the 2nd year of the 3rd generation. You won't regret it.

Or, try the 3rd year of the 2nd generation, your choice.

I was going to say that I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of this happening in the next few years,seeing that the current models should've come out the box with the new gen engine specs.

You guys are assuming a whole lot here. Sure bolting the engine in will probably be fairly easy. Good luck getting the ECU to control it though. Or the car to talk to the new ECU. Engine swaps are difficult in modern cars because of electronics, not mechanics. Even the ‘easy’ ones usually don’t have AC, at least some gauges not working, forget about traction control or the immobilizer. I think the effort of swapping in any motor will dwarf the 28hp bump.

Swapping a motor or buying an entire car for 28hp is insane IMO. Unless it's only gonna cost you a grand(it won't)

The swap will not be a drop in plug and play or we would see all kinds of FA20F swaps already. I don't recall a single one that was every actually completed.

There is little point in going to the trouble and expense of a swap for so few gains. Especially true when their are already reasonably priced options to swap much more powerful (and reliable) engines on the market.

We don't even know if the FA24D is even going to be that great and engine. It could turn out to be a real dog and people will want to swap old FA20s into new cars. Not probable but possible.
