Oh definitely. But since I think the stock 18s are kind of ugly anyway, I can get those tires on something better. And truth be told - I use 17" for track wheels anyway for their lower weight. The 18s are reserved for looking pretty day-to-day and don't need to be PS4s or anything that fancy.

Things I like:
The GR 86 is more nicely resolved, styling wise, than the BRZ which has an ugly nose. The new digital instrument cluster seems clear and easy to read. They kept the weight low and just added some torque and power. Things I don’t like: Black rims - I think silver rims stand out better on a sports car. Extra duckbill spoiler - prefer it without. Also seems to reduce the already limited rear visibility. Loss of the grab handles on the door arm rests. I loved those, and they were functional. Overall, not a bad effort if it remains similar in price. I’d have a GR 86 over a 2.0 Supra any day. Not sure it does enough to tempt existing, happy owners out of their gen 1 though, especially if already modded to their tastes. But it is just great to see affordable sports cars alive and on sale in 2021. |

But it could do it just as well, and look better while doing it, without a duck tail. |

You're absolutely right. IF I was spending most of my driving time on a track, I'd be concerned about aerodynamics and finessing the last few ounces of downforce and reducing drag.
But the reality is, at this point in my life, the only time I might be at a track is as a spectator. On the street, the aerodynamics of a duck tail are about as meaningful as the drag reduction of a fresh coat of wax. My 'spirited driving' consists of tooling around the country roads of New England, where even if you exceed the speed limit by 15-20 mph, aerodynamics still are completely irrelevant. Given that, I want to like what I see in my car when I approach it, and when I turn my head to look back at it as I walk away. I don't want the view ruined by a silly duck tail that has absolutely no function whatsoever for my driving, and serves only to distract from the otherwise clean lines. It would be like putting Veronica Lake in a sports bra. Maybe she could shave a few tenths of a second off a 100 meter sprint, but what would be the point of that? |

But at the same time it sounds kind of synthetic (does anyone know if they piping engine noise in the cabin at all? via speaker or a sound tube?). Im not sure if i find it better, especially since i have now gotten used to and very much like the FA20's growliness (which i wasn't a fan of at the beginning) More and more im finding that in the pursuit of creating a better car, the second gen car is losing the personality that the first gen car had. |

I was enthusiastic about the Gen2 before the US spec reveal. That Duck tail/bill just might be a deal breaker. Initially, I was taken aback, then tried to convince myself it wasn't so bad if matched with a particular color. Then the more I looked at it, the more it offended me. I'm still going to reserve final judgement until an in person viewing. |
