Digging everything but the back. I prefer the GR86 this gen over the Subie model. I even like the stock premium rims. Lowering Springs from RCE or Swift + Neptune Blue or Red or Pavement Grey would be my choices in that order. Sadly I just got my 13 sorted for track duties with all the right mods and its paid for. Maybe in a few more years I will look at this as an upgrade.

I dont mind the look of the standard edition.
Certainly those rims will look better in the darker colours than the almost invisible black rims on the 18s. ![]()

First we thought the rear ducklip was ugly a few months ago. To solve this, Toyota made an even uglier ducklip! Now I'm quite content with the original rear on the BRZ.
Would love to buy one - this might be one of the last affordable sports cars ever to be made again! If the base MSRP is <30 USD, it would be a decent buy... BUT I recently called around local dealerships for tradein value on my 2016... and that's where they'll getcha! |

I really, really like it. There are things I'm not wild about, but it's such a solid platform, and thoughtfully designed. I think a ~2024 Neptune Blue will be in my future (wife gets the next new car, so my '17 will be around for a while).

Probably not. The only ones that publicly announce they cover track day use is the GM performance division and Hyundai with the new "N" cars.

No word on the final drive ratio. There is notable acceleration improvement to 60, but that could be due to 2nd being stretched to 62, so a taller final drive overall. But we just don't know yet. |

The look of the new car is sort of growing on me. Probably mostly because I like what I'm hearing about the 2.4 engine (though it's mostly speculation until there are real road tests). I like the front of the Toyota better than the Subaru, with the less obtrusive front plate mount. But I just can't embrace the silly rocket bunny exaggerated side sills. I know I'd catch my feet on them every time getting into or out of the car, and scuff them up in a week. Now they've added insult to injury with this absurd boy-racer duck lip. Really? Is it really necessary? The rear looks so much better without it, though that likely means having to take the base version. |

The new ducktail is not totally an original design element:

I like everything I am seeing and if my gen 1 wasn't so heavily modified I'd buy a gen 2.
The duck bill thing got ruined from the web bombarding us with this for the last decade or two.

I keep watching the release videos and after initially shunning the ducktail, I think in certain colors, it might work. The white one looks good...the red, meh.

I'll reserve judgement on looks, 'til I see one in person. I do like the new front bumper cover...best yet. Not sure about the rear. I'm on my 2nd, having had a '13 FRS, and now a stage 2 + (catless header & 93 tune) Hakone. I don't know what my car does 0-60 in, and haven't dynoed it, but I doubt the new GR is much quicker, with the ~20 hp (and how much torque?) of a stage 2 + tune, especially when the slight weight increase is factored...that is, until the aftermarket catches up. If I wasn't so happy with the Hakone and was hunting a new sports car, the GR86 would be near the top of my list. As it stands, if I love it in person, and especially if my coilovers & headers swap over, I may get one. If similar gains to the current car can be had with similar tuning investment, this ne GR will be a tough sports car value to beat. I thought about the new GR, before I bought the Hakone, and still don't regret the purchase. I've been enjoying the Hakone for a year, and will continue to do so for another 2 years or so. I'm guessing resale on a clean, low miles Hakone won't be to bad. I hope they sell a lot of these.
