All-New 2022 Subaru BRZ Makes Global Debut
Quote:
Yea that’s true, although I’m not necessarily talking just bout looks. You’re right, GM is far from the only company guilty of this, just the most blatant that I can tell. I can’t remember the last time I drove a GM product that actually felt like a unique driving experience (in a good way). Even a corvette isn’t very nice to drive. Fast yes, but that’s not what i mean. |

>No license plate growth
I feel like they knew what looks good, but couldn't put the effort (or more likely didn't want to put the cost) into integrating it into the lower grille black plastic. It's the only major gripe I have with the BRZ, to be honest. On the 86 I'm not a fan of the little growths that lead into the side air ducts, and how massive the grille is on the front. I wonder what sort of solution the aftermarket will come up in regards to that; I might have to see them in person and see what the aftermarket has in store if I still have gripes with either of them. |

My god it is even uglier as a toy. I didn't think that was possible. Oh and Bel you really need to learn how to hyperlink pictures instead of uploading every singe one to the forum.

Wow, people in a large venue. I really miss that.
And some not wearing masks too. I wonder if they were required to prove full vaccination upon entry. Otherwise, if it's the honor system I don't think they'll ever allow that here. Anyway, I like all the changes that I see. People complain about the side vent but if you are an STI owner like myself then you won't mind that detail. Also, I like that there is a deeper looking rocker panel as well. My 1st generation has a 5: AD body kit which was taken from the final concept 86. The rockers are more deeply sculpted which I prefer plus it is added protection from cones for people doing autocross. The seats on gen 2 look good and substantial as well. Overall, I'd say they have achieved their goal if providing more car was the intention. The pandemic might slow the initial sales, but rather than a typical diminishing sales number each subsequent year, I predict there will be growth from 1st to 2nd or possibly 3rd year depending on overall economic recovery. I'd jump on it if I didn't have so much sunk in my gen 1, but I suppose it will be a classic eventually. That is unless they release a special edition gen 2 with a supercharger and Ohlins, which will be followed shortly thereafter by a giant meteor impacting the Earth.

I like the side vents on on the STI. They work with the muscular sort of industrial lines of the car. I don't like them on the Twins since they are in total contrast to the rest of the lines and appear forced. I get that they are a well known Subaru performance design cue but they could have toned them down a bit. That is a pile of metal work for two 1/4" by 1" slots.

I like the 5:AD on Gen1 and actually thought about getting it, but it doesn't look anything like the "wings" they've added to GEN2. I think it would have helped if it flowed better into the the rear quarter panel, maybe into a wheel vent.
I'm sure they will sell every one they build, it just won't be one to me. I was really hoping we would have heard about the return of the MR2 by now, and whether it was to be an EV or hybrid. With my 86 approaching 200K miles in the next few months, it's time to start planning the shopping list. At this point I'll be looking elsewhere.

It's evolving, all over the place, and really isn't a short list.
Primarily at this point I'm waiting to see if any of the "low roof" EV options everyone keeps promising come to fruition in the next 12 to 36 months. I'm also looking at this from the prospective of it being a car I may keep into retirement. Some of it will also depend on whether I replace the 86 or our Suburban first, both of which have almost the same number of miles on them and neither have been very problematic to this point (I'd drive either from Georgia to Oregon today with no concern). I want to see what the Silverado and Tahoe EVs look like but those are a couple of years out. The Ford Lightning doesn't have the range I would want in an EV, and well, its a Ford. Also, with used car prices jacked way up, some of the options on my list are stupid money (last gen CTS-V for example, which are selling right now for almost the price they were when new).

The 86 is my daily driver/commuter/occasional long trip car. My Suburban is our weekend/vacation/family hauler. If I'm just replacing my commuter, an EV makes sense, because I can drive it for free (charging at work and home for no cost). I would not replace my "trip car" with an EV though as I'm not going to set out on a round trip in an EV that would require a charge on either leg. In the end, it's early times in the process.
