It's tempting to find an older wrx hatch or wagon for, I dunno, $15k or under? As a second car. But I'm worried about dealing with engine issues, especially head gaskets. Probably not worth it right?

I want hatchback STI in Plasma Blue Purple, but it's impossible to find, even if I find out, it's way over priced, PLUS expect to spend extra $10k~$15k to swap out the engine (soon or later).

If that's okay w you then def it's worth it.
