So are you saying when my parents told me I was perfectly normal, that was all a lie?

...what? Where did anyone say they wanted that? Not even what I'm talking about. There's 0 chance they'd INTENTIONALLY make the engine sound like this, and I wouldn't expect them to "admit" to anything. DI has been making noises for years before this car came along, and nowhere near as many people are flipping their shit about it.

Seriously though, does anyone actually believe they(the engineers) wouldn't prefer to NOT have this sound being made? Or do you believe they enjoy it and are proud of it? The future of HPFPs will not have this annoying sound.
Again, where the hell are you getting this? Nobody has said the engineers are proud of the sound or feel it's desirable. They've simple said, "Yeah, so?"

I don't even know where to start on this. The logic here is so twisted it's kinda sad. You're comparing apples to oranges and manipulating the truth surrounding this situation. A sound coming from sticking brakes is ABNORMAL. Saying that it's "normal because they're broken!" is asinine. Nobody would ever call that a "normal sound from a malfunctioning part." They'd call it busticated.

The sound coming from our cars is normal under standard operating conditions, and is not the result of a faulty part that will ultimately result in damage. It's just a noise.

ANYWAY

Since you've completely missed the whole point of my post, allow me to reiterate: Toyota and Subaru have said multiple times, to multiple people, in multiple situations, across multiple states, that this is normal for the motor. It's not broken, it doesn't need to be fixed, and to get over it. When people come in the thread and demand a statement from them when they've already issued dozens is what makes me laugh.

But hey, this is America: The Land of the Self-Entitled, right?

People are concern because for most of us the chirp didn't happen until 300 miles plus. If its normal it should have started right off the lot.

So break-in periods don't exist then?

Okay, let's all be realistic here...

Is the chirp damaging to the fuel pump? Probably not.
Is it something that should be fixed? Yeah probably.

It's really only 'normal' if every high pressure fuel pump out there makes the same noise.

Am I really the only person who doesn't seem to have this annoying chrip sound??

I've had the car since June 7th and followed the break in instructions. First 1000 miles (or 1600 kms for me) were all below the 4K rpm limit. Once I reached 1600, I opened it up though.

I now have 2700+ kms on the clock and still no annoying chirp. Never heard it once. I drive with the windows down all the time, I've been to 2 different AutoX events, multiple tanks of gas (all Chevron 93 Octane with zero ethanol), and still no chrip sound.

Am I just really lucky?

The bold part is likely why you aren't seeing issues. I'm willing the bet the ethanol in our fuel is degrading a certain part, thus the chirp and hence your lack thereof.

No. I am also chirp free running Chevron 94 octane in the same geographical area as you.

However, I did once, in WA state fill up with Chevron 92 (w/ ethanol). It chirped that entire tank. It was also hot, I drove a lot in one day, etc...

I'm a pretty scientific guy, so that alone to me doesn't mean ethanol causes it, but it was a notable coincidence. Time will tell if it comes back for my car, and if I'm using other gas when it does and can make the noise come and go depending on where I fill up, then I will start to believe there is some truth to the hypothesis that this is a problem with Ethanol.

not sure if its the same noise, but when parked with the engine on it sounds kinda like ticking coming from the engine. I popped the hood and it seemed like it was coming from the belts. Is this normal/the noise ppl are talking about?

When I picked mine up it already had 70 miles on it, it was chirping then.
Not sure where the dealer get's it's fuel, but I can count on them putting 87 in even when it calls for premium. I've caught several dealers in the act on other occasions in the past with other cars. Even an acquaintance that worked at a Toyota dealer told me that happens, not always intentionally, but because porters either don't pay attention or don't give a rats ass.

Once I burned through the original tank I put Shell 93 and it seems to have reduced the chirping to more of a sick bird...

That's normal and different than what is referenced here.
