If you need to brake, it's better to slow down a bit very early so you get more time before getting to the line of cars, so hopefully they start moving before you need to slow down too much.

I think slowing down in neutral is a no no O_O at least that's what I saw in another thread...but I wouldn't really know since I don't even have my license yet LOL. I think if you are in neutral and not pressing your clutch in it doesn't hurt your clutch though.

Depending on the light situation, I'd ether put my car in N and cruise it all the way and break. If I see the light go green and theres a long o'l line I'll break when the distance looks kind of right and downshift from whatever gear I'm on to 2nd or 3rd depending on how far the car infront of me moves. o_O

Enlighten me! Lol
It's a general rule that you don't want to be in neutral for too long while driving. There may come a situation in which you would need to accelerate out of danger and if you're in neutral, it would take you that much more time to shift into gear and gun it. By that time, the unspeakable may have already happened. I almost always downshift until I reach less than 10mph approaching a stop and heel/toe into turns unless I feel super lazy for some reason or (like lately) am worried about wasting too much gas when rev-matching.

So I have a question sorry this is pretty noobish, when you come to a complete stop, when do you put it in neutral or press in the clutch? Right before the engine stalls?

Doesn't have to be right before the engine stalls, you press it in before you come to a complete stop, say 3-5 mph.

When I first started driving a manual I was pretty noobish too, I was granny shifting not double clutching like I should. I figured it out though, and you will too!

OK, in this particular case, the door was jammed and the driver is a female, so both of what you are suggesting do not work. Cranking out the window was her only choice.

Speaking of breaking the window, Car window (sides) are not that easy to break, although I have no experience of breaking it in the first place. Somehow I think even the police needs some kinds of tools (a hammer or something) to break the window if they need to. I know the windshield will not break, it get fractures because of a thin plastic layer between two layers of glass. In order to break the wind shield, you really need to kick it out very hard. Again this was not feasible for that poor female driver.

I understand all the fuss of not having automatic windows. I am trying to convey that by having this nice feature, we are reducing one possible exit method when accident happens.

To be honest, I was taught like what Giccin said and I think that may be *incorrect*. Ryun84 said it nicely for the reasoning. I will need to adjust my driving methods now. Unfortunately, my current ride does not allow me to heel-toe because the pedals are placed closely. Somehow for some reason, it is very easy to do this on the RHD Japanese cars. I don't know why?

So, based on some feedback, during the braking situation, one should stay in gears during slowing down until either 10 mph or 3-5 mph because shifting into neutral. Is this the consensus among the folks?

I'm not trying to be insensitive but in a life or death situation adrenaline kicks in if you're male or female so being female doesn't have anything to do with it and I've never had to break a window but I'm sure if you needed to you could, plus there are usually 2+ doors on a car to open unless they were all jammed. Also they sell glass breaking tools you can keep in your car, and they have them on some flashlights and knives and all sorts of stuff so being prepared doesn't hurt, even if it is being prepared to help someone else. And I never said manual windows were bad I just said I didn't like them, yes they have their positives but they also have negatives.

No danger of that, and it's better for your clutch bearings than coasting along with the clutch pedal depressed.

Yes, keep the transmission in a gear that's appropriate for the speed that you're traveling.
