STI is not what it used to be

"The suspension is equipped with a 10mm low-down coil spring. The damper is said to be the same as the standard car. The brakes are the same as the standard car."

Not great, but in situations where OEM parts must be used (some countries and/or some sport organizations) it's better to have such an option to lower the car than no options at all.

There is no relation with what STi is offering now and what they were offering in first generation cars. Check here for details of original list of parts. I am just hoping that what we see here is a pre-release of a small list of parts and not the final catalog. And I am not buying the argument that new car was generated jointly by Subaru and STI and it doesn't need a big list of changes. I would be more keen to buy that argument, if standard car was called STI BRZ or BRZ tS the same way Toyota named it GR86 (Gazoo Racing 86).

Back in the day, STI had multiple spring options, adjustable struts, adjustable coilovers, swaybars, suspension arms, and so on. Some were JDM accessories you could still get from your dealer, some were only available through an aftermarket shop, and then there were all the Group N parts. And then there were the almost sorta kinda factory backed Prodrive parts. We basically got our start selling some of the JDM and Prodrive and Group N parts more than 15 years ago.

Times have definitely changed! I like some of these BRZ parts but you can tell the STI focus has changed a bit over the years.

STi, GR, and so on are all just watering down their names for marketing purposes. It has reached the point that in my mind at least it is now meaningless designations. That happened to TRD a while back so now they have to use GR to get the same sort of reaction they used to with TRD. An exhaust or lowering spring with STi slapped on it no longer means that STi themselves had anything to do with the development.

Well, I would like to be honest. It is not always a fault of the vendors. If people are cheap and they don't buy, then we should not always blame STI or TRD. For example, one year ago STI designed a titanium muffler. It was build in limited pieces, because it was hand made. How many did they buy it? A very limited number when they saw the actual price! STI thought that the interest would be high enough and they were saying at first to make a lottery. At the end the muffler didn't sell and they had to make it available to the public. People attracted by Subaru or Toyota are not willing to pay for a high quality part comparing to people attracted by other brands (e.g. Porsche). I had in many cases a personal experience too, where I would sell a high quality or low used part. People would message me to ask the price and then they would just look around in ebay to find a cheap or highly used and beaten up part. Unfortunately, it is what it is and I don't see changing in near future.

I didn’t even know this part existed, I have the normal (non-titanium) STI muffler, I thought it was expensive. Just checked Japanparts $5352 AU, ouch! Does look cool though.

It would be a little over 4K in US dollars. Over 5K here. Still too expensive IMO, but wouldn’t knock it back as a Christmas present.

Good car, I drove my friend's GT4. It's nice but i don't feel like it cost 4 times more. *probably a bit better then twice more. I think normal 718S would be lovely.
