My point was that we (enthusiasts/followers) are a minority and signing a petition would not make Toyota all of a sudden just do what we want when they obviously have their reasons for doing what they do

Yeah, like 37 signatures won't do squat.

Toyota is a sells to well with its line up to throw in a car that might make its sells figure suffer.. The more I think about it.. the better for Toyota this is if it comes out under the Scion emblem .
If people haven't noticed that by now...sigh...go facepalm yourself.

Yes it is also possible that the 86 got thrown at Scion in an attempt to save the brand, if it doesnt work they will axe it and sell the next year model as a new Toyota (it doesnt work as in the rest of the Scion brand doesnt get picked back up and the 86 is the only thing selling)

I don't quite understand what you're trying to say here. If the sale of the FT-86 fails in Scion--Scion in itself is in deep trouble. Toyota-the mother company-is feeding Scion money to try to receive a higher profit in sales. If they fail to sell a set amount of vehicles to the public toyota is basically losing money. Why invest money into something if you're not going to profit from it? (Response to the bold).

And I'm confused on what you're trying to say on the underline part.

He clearly states that "We want to grow 10% in 2011" as a Toyota. So in simpler terms. Everyone who anticipated this car to be a Toyota got trolled.

What I'm thinking is--they're making (not set in stone yet) the FT-86 into a scion to try and SAVE the brand. Scion sales have dropped and from what I'm speculating; they're trying to save their failed brand and minimize the loss of their buyer base by introducing the ft-86.

As from what I can see--the brand "Scion" was meant to target young adults exiting high school entering college or those who want a cheap "performance" car with decent looks. This brand has no "passion" behind their vehicles.

The FT-86 was meant to be the predecessor of the AE86-is it not?

So the question now is... how will Toyota keep the "TRD" name if they can't even badge a car that was meant to revive the love for motorsport; moreover, if they give up the remake of the legendary AE86 to the Scion brand which is meant to be cheap performance towards teenagers under 20k?

If Toyota wanted to get back into the sports car competition they should've introduced the FT-86 as a Toyota to put themselves back into the game.

Or, in order to address a global audience they'd lump Scion into Toyota, since Scion doesn't exist outside North America.

They're Asians that don't live in the US. They're probably thinking "Oh, yah yah, those stupid Americans love Scions" (use high pitched Asian voice thats trying to sell you something when reciting) When in reality most people, including myself, know Scion makes some pretty homo vehicles.

Toyota probably already knows what we feel. I imagine with the money they spend on research they're reviewing this forum on a daily basis (along with the others).

Could not agree with you more about your post! When Toyota "wants to launch" it does so with a force of commitment without doubt! Come on everyone, wake up this is NOT going to be a well funded project and the hand off to Scion, an almost test market branded product at best is a lame way to move on to focus on the money demographic they actually intend to pursue with "passion" soccer moms with Siennas and Dads with Highlanders. It's about the money, not the enthusiast or avid and loyal consumer.

it has to do with toyota business strategy for 2 scenarios, imho.

the ft-86 is meant to get people back into the toyota brand, spice it up, and have them stick with it and it's 3 divisions. Scion is lagging in the US so instead of badging this a Toyota they wanna badge it a Scion for 2 birds 1 stone effect.

1 - Scion sales increase, people look at that brand specifically, buy the 86 and other scions
2 - people are also now into the toyota brand in general, they will move up to a toyota and Lexus.

However if it doesnt work in reviving Scion (but the car is selling well worldwide and by itself) toyota can then rebadge it a Toyota in the US and continue selling it, where it will continue to bring in buyers to the brand just not as a scion

They will spend a lot of money doing that. Use the chassis and engine on different model would be more ideal, but that's just my perspective.
