Subjective, I think both gens of 86, like most sports cars in general, look better in bright colours that show off the lines and details better.

Im finding that the colours i feel dont fit the first gen, fits the second gen better.

And vice versa.

I've always liked black wheels but never purchased them. Hope they are standard equipment on the GR86.

So since the BRZ and 86 both decided to poke their nose out like Pinocchio, I assume they did it for the purpose of needing more room behind that bumper for whatever was added or enlarged? Otherwise I would have far preferred the look of the rendering in terms of how far the bumper pokes. Hope there was a purpose for it and not just a styling thing.

EDIT: Forgot it wasn't going to pull the photo's along with this response, but people know what I'm referring to I assume.

New stricter regulation rules on pedestrian safety.

Interesting... so they want the car to break the person at the knee instead of the quad/thigh?

Exterior design and color preference is not *always* subjective. An expert can explain in detail why some of the lines in the second generation are entirely out of context. There is a reason people saying they feel colors that fit in second gen better, they don't fit in first gen and vise versa

The idea is to throw the pedestrian up on the hood instead of down and under the vehicle (at lower speeds) since that will reduce the severity of the injuries. In theory at any rate.
It is funny that they push these points down where the bulk of the vehicles on the road are pickup trucks and SUVs with great be gapping maws of grills!

The cowcatcher theory!!!

I think trucks get big flat grilles because they ride so high and when you drive smack into animals alot of the little ones get stuck in the grilles and survive..

Maybe that's what they're going for with the trucks and big gaping maws. If you run into a pedestrian they might just get embedded in the grille and survive!

There are dozens of iso standards for pedestrian impact. I have read many of them (for work not as a hobby).
You have to pay to get them but here is a bit of one of the testing requirements to give you an idea of just how detailed they get. The full thing is about 30 pages long though.

For sedans and other cars, you are trying to "sweep the legs," flipping the person onto the hood and having the head strike the hood in the worst case, which generally crumples and absorbs the energy of the impact. If the head hits the windshield, the person is probably dead.

For vehicles like trucks and SUVs, you notice that the front end is usually quite "flat." You don't have bumpers like you use to. The goal of having a flat plane is both aero and to reduce leg injuries - also not let them go under the vehicle. If you have a large, flat surface that can crumble on impact of an object, like a person, the force of the vehicle striking the person may be better distributed across the body instead of being directed at one point, assuming the head doesn't take the hit.

But yea, I would rather be hit by a low sports car and flipped up on the hood than getting thrown forward or going under a Dodge Ram, obviously.

Aesthetics are definitely up to the individual. To me, the BRZ looks like a discount Panamera (which is not an especially pretty Porsche). I think this is a much better front end.

Yeah - at this point I'd definitely take the car with steelies (though I still want the other good stuff )

As other's have mentioned, it's about making the striking area long enough to catch the pedestrian without having their head impact the windshield.

It is a little long, but I do appreciate the way the 86 does it over the BRZ. I've always liked the old shark-nose BMWs, and this has a hint of that going on.
