Will the Digital speedometer have a fast refresh?

One thing that annoys me is the digital speedometer. I literally hate slow speed refresh, you totally lose the feeling of progression. It was installed with instant refresh on very few cars so I'm worried.
Do you know anything about it?

Anyway, I can't wait for more news.

I'm not really sure what you're asking?

Are you saying the digital speedo doesn't keep up with the car? We don't accelerate that quickly. (and if we did, you should be staring at the speedo anyway )

Is he talking about if the numbers go through every digit as you accelerate or they skip numbers and show the ones at that very instant?

There is a speedometer? Do the current gen have one? Is that those numbers I vaguely look at once a month or so?

Your local municipality's revenue department must love you, all that sweet ticket cash.

I have had one speeding ticket in my life and that didn't even count since the nice officer apparently never registered it with the courts.
Don't want to even guess at how many times I have been pulled over though!

The digital speed readout in the 1st Gen was good enough for me to never look at the analog needle, so I’m sure it’ll be fine.

do you care about the needle sweep? Still have the RPM sweep to get you a good sense of the rate of acceleration.

No digital screen is going to be perfect when trying to compare it to something analog running on a smooth mechanical gear.

The screen likely refreshes at 50~60hz. It is hard to tell from videos and photos, but it does not look particularly feature-rich or high quality. But will it look smooth? If it does refresh at 50-60 hz, then relatively so, yes. If you are all about that 144hz gaming monitor life, then probably not. If you are all about real life, then definitely not.

I'd also point out that since the Gen I gauges are analog, I'd bet they have a lot of latency and overall inaccuracy because you are sending an electrical signal to turn a mechanical gear that rotates a needle on a printed panel. The room for error there is super high.

I wonder if the GEN II screen can be hacked and more information shown, instead of having to go to an OBD dongle and your phone or tablet.

I love the feeling of progression on km/h-mph and rpm and the precision that gives you the analog instruments.
You can have that feeling on digital instruments only if the increment is by unit and not by time.
I've seen something similar only on Tesla and Ferrari.

Here (0:24) you can see what I mean.

And here (0:34) you can see what I hate.

I know, this is a minor thing but...just to pass the wait.

I think he's referencing polling speed, ie. how often the display updates the sensor reading.

The early digital speedos did try to show the exact speed. Fine when cruising but unreadable when accelerating or slowing down as all of the segment were flashing so fast that no number was readable. Over the years they have improved by skipping and holding a number long enough to be read.

The first video show that the 1st digit is un readable.

Did movies in the theater bother you? The standard for film was 24Hz...

I think what you may be actually bothered by is a system where the data update is not synchronized with the refresh rate, and the ensuing artifacts.

Human perception is just not that fast (on the order of 100ms is "instantaneous")! I truly doubt that given the amount of data displayed on the dash that the refresh rate would be the issue on a PROPERLY designed system.

Edit: Just viewed the video you said illustrates the undesirable behavior. That is neither screen refresh rate or tearing. That is intentional programming.
