Oh, I'm using my hobby knife to cut out the leather once thinned. But in order to thin it out, I have better luck using just a box cutter razor by itself.

Heavy gloss tint coat and decals on ready for further weathering.

This is how you get soft line between the different camo colours. Yep that is good old silly putty. The thickness lets a little overspray to soften the line.



So this is what you get.



With the hairspray between the silver and topcoat all you have to do is wet the paint, wait a few seconds and then chip and flake it off with a toothpick or hard brush. The action of chipping and flaking the paint makes it look just like chipped and flaked paint.



Now that it looks like it was painted by Subaru it is time to dirty it up a bit!

You didn't paint the insignia and such before weathering? What is the plan there?

Removing the masking to revel the nicely painted framework.



Or at least that is the theory. God only know what it actually looks like under that tape. Bleed through the joints is real!

Since it will be displayed in flight and at altitude it will remain closed.

Agh, didn't realize it was still masked.

Started working on the Mega Construx Halo Energy Sword over the weekend to go along with the helmet above (box image below). 3 minutes in, found a black piece of the hilt was missing, but it wasn't critical since it under the silver portion of the hilt and is only a two post piece.

Two hours later, discover on of the 10 peg pieces right before the point of the sword is missing, and there ain't no working around that.

Sigh....waiting for a replacement part.

Still a layer of weathering and a flat coat to go. Then we shall see what lies underneath. Painting birdcage canopy frames is my nemesis and something I rarely seem to get right.
