Thanks for all the feedback. It’s surprising tough to run a Google search and find a decent one. 5 stars with 1 review! Haha

My perspective is if you’re thinking about seeing a therapist, you’ll probably benefit from it.

An important aspect of my treatment was developing language to describe symptoms, experiences, and solutions. That needed to come before my own way forward.

Another component was the concept of taking or leaving components of therapy. That includes therapists. I’m sorry if you don’t have the luxury of a network of therapists or psychiatric Drs. There’s some that aren’t going to work for some. Keep an open mind about continuing if you do experience some incongruity w a therapist.

I was seeing a therapist for awhile. It was nice at first but after a while I felt like she was starting to treat me like one of her patients.

I've had many people ask me if I've seen a therapist...geez, how the hell do I know? It's not like they carry signs.

I had a therapist tell me that she was crazy about me. They fired her the next day.

Then she started stalking me but she was hot so I hit it before serving her with a restraining order.

Now I hear she has to sell her body as a prostitute. For $100 she'll blow your mind.

no, but everyone seems to think it'll 'help' somehow. but they've all got conflicting idea's on which part needs help.

Group class about managing depression/anxiety was shockingly helpful, I thought I'd hate sharing with a group but it works. Good luck, it's hard, you have to put in work, be easy on yourself. I went through my megacorp insurance company, gp gave me a little test, ticked enough boxes where the red flags went up and got a referral.

Sounds downright American.
Possibly overlooked point in this post is that the first therapist you see may not be the one you stick with, and don't feel bad about finding another therapist if you feel as though the one you're seeing isn't helping. It is not uncommon to see several before you find "the one" as Strat said.

As an actual therapist, I would just let you know that the therapeutic relationship that you develop with the therapist will be the most important/beneficial aspect of you seeing a therapist. Studies have shown that the biggest determining factor in clients getting better was the quality of the relationship they had with their therapists. Don't get too hung up on the type of modality they use, but make sure that you are able to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with them.

I am COMPLETELY talking out of my... umm..... posterior... but, well, there are studies that link depression with screen time, and social media especially.

I've found that, personally, limiting online exposure, and changing the percentage of priority placed upon improving the way one feels vs the way one can help others is a sure-fire cure for the blues. Faith in and gratitude for powers greater than us is also necessary, in my humble opinion, for a full and happy life, if I'm allowed to say that without violating any terms of conduct here. I know that's an increasingly unpopular and hideous thing to say, but look at the world as we move away from faith. Is it working?

NONE of this is to negate the good that therapy can do for some people. If you need help, definitely get it.

I know nothing about mental health/therapy, but that ^ made me think of The King’s Speech with Colin Firth and Jeffrey Rush. It was about their personal relationship.

I had my first renal transplant at twenty-seven (ten years ago) and when I was doing my work-up, I was encouraged to attend one of the local transplant support groups. I went to one, and it was just a bunch of old people bawling their eyes out. One old woman was bawling that she didn’t want to lose her figure because of the meds. No one talked to me or asked me why I was there. It was a huge put-off. Maybe that’s an uncharitable view, but I think it highlights the importance of finding the program that works for you, whatever that is. I was in a completely different state of mind than those people. I was born unhealthy, and was still working 40-60 hour workweeks in factory labor right up until the day before my transplant.
