So I, with all my wisdom to risk ruining my car's airbag and the new one I spent $800+ on, decided to go forward and change them out. I just used a 5/16 socket and socket wrench and swapped them out.

Tightened everything back up, connected all the wire harnesses back in and ground wire, lined up the airbag with the holes and pushed in and heard it click into place in all 3 slots.

Here it is...

Nice install and mod. Now go out and test it out to make sure you connected all the wires properly and in fact the dual stage system is still functional.

Haha jokes aside, titusdrake has a point and I personally agree with him. I would never pay $800 for that either, even if I wasn't a poor college student, but that's just me. To each their own.

As long as you are happy with the purchase, good for you! There are plenty of other things people "waste" their money on.
1%er? Man I wish. Someday maybe lol. I don't go to USC to aspire to be poor. I'm there with you on the college student part but I gotta spend my deployment money on something hahaha. All in all, I know it's not something many will do, and I'm ok with that. I'm totally happy with it. Thanks bro!

It's not uniqueness that I seek, it's not doing things half-assed. Feel me? But yeah, I am totally realistic and keep thinking "fack $800 was too much" but oh well, it makes me happy and well some other people spend their money on far worse things to make them happy.

Those are next on my list. Waiting to see if my buddy (who is going to study abroad in Spain) can get them cheaper than what I have seen them for ($300+ for floor mats, 180 for trunk mat)

Nice work dude! Thanks for the post of how to change out the bomb. It should help others get the same type of setup going.

Hopefully, you'll never need to find out if your airbag still works properly

I think you can sale that single-stage stage bomb back to someone may need it from other country for $400 lol;
Now I'm curious if it is possible to find the manufacture in Japan that made the airbag then just buy the black 86 cap assembly part without that single-stage metal bomb part !???

Yeah I hope so too, but I'm pretty sure it does since the only difference was the bomb. Let's never find out though.

Thanks! I gotta find someone to buy this thing now. Yeah it would be nice to be able to get the airbag without the bomb.

Glad to see it goes together so easily. I'm planning on doing this when I get mine.
