Stock brakes are not an issue at all on the street, and fine at the track for shorter sessions with appropriate pads and fluid as @wbradley sez ^^^ Friend/competitor in a '13 has complained about keeping them cool for longer sessions though, and I'm sure his pad wear rate is greater vs. the big Brembos. Also feel is better with the fixed calipers and larger-diameter rotors.

I thought it was a bit hilarious at the time for them to offer bigger brakes on a car that didn't really *need* them. For the 3-lap time-trials I compete in, I don't think they give an advantage but they are penalized 40 lb. vs. non-Brembo FT86s. I still went with them for ease of pad swaps. And because they look so cool... Hoping to see this option on the '22+.

Thanks for the info, and a bit of a brain slip there on my part (Re: Power vs Performance).

Do you typically brake very lightly?
Maybe you've just "sanded" the transfer layer off with light braking?
Have you tried occasionally doing hard braking or even re-bedding the brakes?

TBH the squeal is only on slow approach to red lights and stop signs and I do give them a good firm press when enjoying the back roads which does eliminate the squeal for a time. Really only noticed it last week and it just irked me at that time.

Back to the topic of this new Gen, Having to deal with some insane cold months I’ve come across issues
with radio and high quality camera displays going blank or loosing some info on their displays on those
chilly cold mornings -20C or more., Never having a digital dash I wonder if this issue is a concern, will it
arise with the new digital metering?

*on my brakes they’re misspelled as Brembo.

The PP BRZ has only been out since 2016. Approaching 5 years.

If Subaru wants to milk numbers especially for repeat BRZ owners it makes sense to let the excited buyers buy the 1st or 2nd model years without the PP and then release it so that it targets not only previous 17-20 PP owners, but also the 22-23 non-PP owners.

It’s obviously a strategic approach but should work very well.

On paper the 2nd-Gen BRZ is very fascinating. I want to hear that it is as good or even better than an S2000 but there’s so many variables. Can’t wait for the driving impressions and to drive one myself.

I'm pretty sure it's just basic project management.
First roll out the simplest "base", highest volume, version.
Then start adding trims, options, packages, upgrades etc. based on
a) how much more time it takes to R&D those things, while the base model is paying off for the earlier R&D
b) customer feedback (maybe)

Similar thing, but at a different scale, happens with Corvettes.
Base C8 is out, and they're working on the Z06.

Obviously havent sat in it yet but im impressed by the interior so far, looks nice. Those switches look slick as do the air vents. Have they announced pricing yet?

Yeah I've accepted that the switches and such have been updated for the better in some way, looking a little more modernized. Still not sure I can get used to the very flat dash design. I mean I'll end up getting used to it, but I won't be able to admit it to be better in any way than the first gen design, which was very curvy and nice. Unlike some people out there, I have always found the first gen to have quite a nice interior in terms of its style and curves (not necessarily the material, but I'm plenty happy with it for what the car is worth). Owning a 2018, the black with red accents is perfect in my eyes. But that simple flat dash design with the bulging glove compartment could have really been improved. I also think it's what would really make the car stand out a lot more if it was improved as it's a massive portion of the interior.

The switches and such are only really "updated" if you have only seen the ones in a FRS. They really are not much different from the higher trim level of the existing BRZ or 86.
In fact I would go so far to say that the existing ones look better (subjective I know).

Actually, even though I meant what I said, I do agree with you as I still feel the same way when I hop in my car and believe that the original design was just very clean and beautiful, especially for its time. I think my favorite change is the temperature knobs, I believe them to look better over the silver plastic ones in gen 1.

I always liked the way the original Gen 1 and ‘17 refresh was inspired by the 2000GT interior, which is now unfortunately gone in the flatter Gen 2 design.

Is it better than the knurled silver ones used in the 2017+ subaru BRZ?
