So, I have had the noise from 600 miles to 970 miles that was really loud and noticeable. At around 750 miles I did the lucas oil and ran a full tank through, but it did not take away the noise. It did make it quieter and not as noticeable. Though, after my break in period I was able to get a few pulls on my car about the 4k line up to 6.5k just to hear her and feel what she has, but had to becareful not to go over the speed limit too much. I did this for about 30 miles and in this tank it does have the 10% ethanol since the only place that I have that is close to me that does not have ethanol is a decent drive away. I do not hear the cricket noise anymore, and have been driving with my a/c on. I will keep you updated to see if it is a just a fluke or not. As well as run on the 10% ethanol to see if it comes back, and if it comes back louder or just a little. I will keep running the normal fuel to see when it might come back and if it does I will see about trying to go to the dealership and see what they might have to say and hope I get lucky like some and they do try something to get it to go away. Also, thanks for the forum and the topic at least I am not to only one, and good luck to the ones that have the issue and hope it gets fixed soon and the ones that have not experienced this hope you do not get it.

Hi, my name is soconfoozed, and I suffer from LOCS, Late Onset Cricket Syndrome. At first I thought I was alone, but then I learned that there are many more just like me...everyday folks who have to deal with the shame of a car that makes cricket noises.

2339mi. Calling the dealer tomorrow. Sigh.

I've come to the conclusion that this is the sound of a DI F20A and there is nothing wrong. My car (at 600miles) makes the same noises as in the video on page one and the first thought I had was.. "Sounds normal to me."

My prediction: It's normal, nothing's wrong and there won't ever be a TSB/Recall/warranty issue regarding the sound of the DI injector chirping.

Perhaps...but I predict a newer version that miraculously doesn't sounds like insects on speed to be developed sometime, simply for the fact that car companies never want annoying noises associated with their products. The decision will come down to cost, not ethics.

Louder than usual this morning. Uploaded a video for a friend and figured I'd post for people who can't reproduce the sound when showing somebody else.

Mine chirps. I'm at about 1100 miles and can barely hear it in the cabin if the radio is off and only at idle. It is fairly noticeable outside the car at idle. I'd like it stopped but don't really care.

Every time someone comes in this thread and demands that Toyota/Subaru make an official statement I laugh out loud. No, really. I actually laugh out loud.

Back on topic, working with the Subaru rep on my bumper fitment so every time we talk I ask for updates on this. Still says it's normal and not harmful to the engine.

I'm not an expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. I'm not sure if NVH is applied to the injection system. I'm under the impression NVH is something applied to engine balance and dampening.

As for the cost thing... yup. The answer to 9 out 10 questions is always "Money".

Enjoy your chirping ladies and gentlemen, it's not going away.

Best video yet illustrating the sound. I also think the important thing in this video is how it sounds when you close the hood. The moment you shut the hood I was like, "Problem solved!".

So, I just got to work and it is back again, but not loud. I have driven about 20 miles with the a/c on and have 10% ethanol, but this tank did not use the lucas oil, but from my previous post it did not stop the chirp, but it did make it quieter. Well, I will keep you posted if it gets worse or not. I got another lucas oil that I could try next tank and see how that goes, or I might make the trip and get the ethanol free gas. Well have fun with your cars.

Every time someone comes in this thread and expects Toyota/Subaru to willingly admit they developed an intentionally noisy engine part I laugh out loud. No, really. I actually laugh out loud.

Seriously though, does anyone actually believe they(the engineers) wouldn't prefer to NOT have this sound being made? Or do you believe they enjoy it and are proud of it? The future of HPFPs will not have this annoying sound.

"Normal" is a relative word. It's normal to hear a "whup whup whup" sound when a brake pad is sticking. But no one ignores that. It's normal for your hand to burn when you stick it into a fire.
