“These vaccines are not a force field around you that negates the chance that you will have an illness or that you will have a severe illness,” Balicer said, noting that while two doses of the vaccine offer substantial protection against severe Covid infection and death, “there is residual risk.”

Miracle of all miracles, someone finally admits the truth. Only 32 people died in the group without the vaccine. Out of 600,000 people, compared to 9 people that took the vaccine and still died. So a 1% chance vs a less than one percent chance.

I'm more scared of children with other medical issues dying from the vaccine than of them actually getting and dying of covid.

The governor of New York murdered more people. That's what is really scary, that after all this we will find out what they did made everything so much worse.

The vaccine reduces the amount of people the virus can spread from. Take a look here. There is a graph. The study was pretty damn conclusive.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2034577

As for children with medical issues, if they get the coronavirus it will be worse than the effects of getting the vaccine. They're immune system will have the same response to the virus (that's what makes people feel sick, their immune system doing things) AND may have actual coronavirus damage while dealing with that. If you are actually worried about those children, you should do everything you can to prevent the spread of coronavirus to them and those around them and people who are around those people. Meaning you would logically be supportive of everyone else including yourself getting the vaccine to reduce the chances of spreading it to others.

This drug might block the coronavirus without any pills or injections

Quote:
After analyzing the coronavirus-ACE2 bond, the researchers came up with protein fragments called peptides that can appear to the virus to be a portion of the ACE2 receptor. These peptides would bind to the SARS-CoV-2 virus’ spike protein, blocking the virus from infecting cells. This process is similar to how neutralizing antibodies work. Antibodies are proteins the immune system manufactures after exposure to the virus or after vaccination. They will also inhibit the same spike protein. The difference between them is that the immune system will make more antibodies for months after the infection or vaccination, maybe years. The peptides would need to be applied to the respiratory system with the help of a nasal spray. But that might be enough to stop the virus from multiplying.

Yes. First, I'm required at work and second, with such a small percentage of the population vaccinated its just still the right thing to do.

mrs humfrz and I got our second shot yesterday.

On the first shot I didn't even feel the needle go in my arm. No after effects.

With the second shot, I felt the needle (like a normal shot in the arm) go into my arm. This morning, my arm is sore (but only when I move it). I'm sort of stiff all over - but, I'm usually sort of stiff all over -

I feel reassured to have gotten both shots. Really, nothing will change (wearing of masks, hand washing, social distancing), however, now I don't feel I need to wear latex gloves when I squeeze my girls down at the grocery store -

I'm sure your "squeezes" will appreciate your "stiff all over".. don't waste it!! Get down to the store before the stiffness wanes.. Just be careful when reversing, the stiffness won't help!

BTW, the UK is over 20m vaccines administrated.

I get my second dose tomorrow!

Nothing else will change. I will continue to assume that I am an asymptomatic carrier, and do my best to keep it to myself.

Got the second dose over the weekend, I was expecting fever, chills, headache, etc. The usual side effects after the second dose. That was Saturday morning, Sunday I felt perfectly fine. Didn't even have a sore arm. Same thing today. Again, I'm fairly young and live an active lifestyle with balanced diet, I don't know if there's a scientifically backed up theory there. Of course nothing in my routine is going to change, I'm still keeping gatherings at bay, went from trips to grocery store to picking up groceries already put together for me, and avoid large gathering areas (malls, casinos). The one thing I can't resist will be car meets, but that is ways away, hopefully more and more people will have access to the vaccine.

Georgia is expanding the vaccination program to public and private K-12 Educators, school staff, pre-K and Early Care and Learning staff, as well as adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their caregivers and parents with children with "complex medical conditions" on March 8th.

It will not include college level professors or staff.

I think that’s the right approach. I’d love for school to go back to normal for the kids. But I desperately believe teachers and also the support staff (office admin, janitor, etc.) need to have their own fair vaccine access first.

Georgia, for the most part, has been "close to normal" since Fall semester. They have left the option open for remote learning, which about 30% of kids are doing right now, at least in the county where MomHawk works.

The problem is they let the kids stay in their normal class as remote rather than consolidating the remote classes into fully remote classrooms, so teachers are having to prepare classwork for both remote and in-classroom training. That will have to be fixed long term if they stay with that strategy.
