Now that I think about it, perhaps you keep the larder light so it gives you the excuse to visit the local squeezes at the grocery store more often.. obviously the strategy slightly flawed when nature has its way..

I recall back in Connecticut during a snowed in experience I fired up my dirt bike to ride to the local corner grocery store and the girl that usually worked there wasn't on duty - I was sooooo bummed -

Yep, back in the day, on the farm, when we canned and froze much of our own meat, fruits and vegetables, we learned to tell what was spoiled or not. Bulging lids on canned fruit and veggies. Beef was easy - just smell it when it thaws out - there will be no doubt in your mind if its spoiled.

mrs humfrz keeps throwing out perfectly "good" food because it has passed the expiration date. I tell her that I've eaten "C" rations that were canned in 1942 -

So, I'm sure some of you have seen the insane weather here in Texas, but it is a chill factor of 6 degrees right now in Austin. I both love this and hate it!
