Today on the news I learned that one of the largest collections of military weapons is here in Treasure Valley. Have to go check it out.

"One of the nation’s largest collections of historic arms and military memorabilia is housed at the Old Idaho Penitentiary. The wide-ranging collection and dramatic settings illustrate the development of weapons throughout history. The collection includes ancient Luristan bronzes, medieval arms and armor, Revolutionary War firearms and swords, Civil War artifacts, and an 1883 Gatling gun on its original carriage. Pistols, rifles, machine guns, mortars, and cannons from many of the countries involved in World Wars I and II are also featured. This extraordinary collection was donated to the Idaho State Historical Society in late 1999. It includes artifacts dating as far back as 3,500 B.C. that were accumulated over some 60 years by the late J. Curtis Earl, a part-time Boise resident who passed away a few months after finalizing the donation."

Today I learned again that there are businesses out there that insist negative experiences with a customer are fake/lies and that they only have a positive reputation. Such that they even have people add new positive reviews to balance it out/persuade the community that it's impossible a customer of theirs has had a negative experience.

Well the main thing has to do with a shop frequented by people in our humble car community out here in California.

I had an "experience" a couple years back and documented it quite thoroughly and posted it as well as screenshots and everything to prove my points. Then I was pretty much labeled a liar about all/most of it despite presenting the evidence. The owner of said shop at the time basically said (paraphrasing) "I've only had positive reviews until this point! So there must be something wrong with the person writing this review." rather than considering the situation.

Then apparently something happened recently with someone else at the same shop and they posted it as a review. And basically you can see the response to them by the owner of said shop. I won't say I believe one side or the other in this case because I'm sure both are exaggerated. But just seeing how the reaction to that negative review is eerily similar to the reaction to mine makes things a bit suspect.

But the part that's just mind-boggling to me is said business owner not just accepting that somebody may have had a bad experience, taking some kind of meaningful feedback about it as a learning experience, and such. And then clearly new "reviews" have popped up that are overwhelmingly positive since the negative one was posted. Like friends are trying to drown out the "noise".

Figured that this might be it.
I never rust reviews that show up praising something with a date even close to a bad review. They always seem fishy.

As much as this is a Today I Learned thread, I don't think I'll ever understand the depths people go to believe their "friends" are above some event/thing, such that they'll mindlessly defend them. Not to mention in this case it's someone they pay to work on their car. It's not like a mutual friendship of any kind. It's a business relationship.

That usually means they are just kissing ass to try and get something in return.
