The touchpads in Lexus and other products had the potential to be better but in the case of Lexus their UI was not really made for touchpad navigation so it makes it cumbersome to use.

Im amazed that none of these manufactuers have made a UI like a smortphone (I think Volvo's might be similar? im not sure about Tesla)
With a touch screen it'll be so intuitive and easy to understand.
I think the closest manufacture by far is Tesla. Many of their software employees even came from Apple and other top companies. From all the reviews I have seen, the UI isn't perfect, but it is far ahead of the competition like you mentioned Lexus, but there UI is terrible. If it wasn't for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto then the LC500's UI would be terrible.

All I saw in this ad was "Hey, look at all the crap we built in so you won't be bored while you're waiting an hour for your car to charge!"

Good video, very balanced in terms of opinions, in my opinion. Even if he did call the yoke from a plane a "plane steering wheel" after referring to the one in a Tesla by the proper yoke term.

Unfortunately for me, Tesla continues to move away from anything I would want to buy. Here's why:
  • Still not a fan of the internal or external design language, although I will give them credit for retaining a display behind the wheel.
  • The "yolk" is cool but not what I want in my car. It works in an F1 car because the speeds make "turning" very minimal movements. In fact, I would rather have a fly-by-wire sidestick in the car. That is a more natural movement for something moving left-right.
  • No gear selector!?! Oh hell, no for all the reasons the reviewer mentioned. I mean, there's only P, N, R, D right? They could at least had paddles, one for reverse, one for drive.
  • Price. The Plaid+ which has the range I want, is well outside the price I'm willing to pay for a car that the only difference is range and speed. I don't know anyone that needs <1.9 0 to 60 for a street car (although I'll take it). Give me the range in the base model please (which is still overpriced in my opinion).

Every time I'm about convinced that I should buy an EV I see something like this. So, on a 2,000 mile road trip he spent about 21% of his time fueling his car. Ugmm... no thanks.

Also, I love the "Hey, I'm on an snow covered road but I'm making a video so I need to use my hands for not driving..in fact I'll take both hands off the wheel..watch me slowly drift out of my lane and have to correct back".

Some interesting points though on the not charging to full, charging more frequently, etc.

He is clear on saying that he prefers the ICE for long trips. Right now, a BEV is more for a daily commute, and mid travels.

EDIT: I posted this before watching it. I am impressed with how involved Elon Musk is to his products. For instance, I don't know if Tim Cook could give the same type of answers on materials, electronics, etc in their iPhones or Mac products, nor could Mark Zuckerburg give such detail about the details of things going on at Facebook, at least that seems to be the case from his interviews in front of congress. Musk seems to be very hands on.

I'm especially in agreement about his point about MBA school. Far too many of these idiots are leading companies with their ten million dollar CEO salaries without actually knowing their product intimately and developing knowledge and expertise in the field. I'm also in agreement about shorting the market.

Wished they had a chance to talk about SpaceX, even if it wasn't Monro's focus.

are some of these superchargers that are off the road just in like a parking lot-ish place with nothing around?

So at those places you just gotta wait there for like 20mins to get your car in a good enough state of charge?

Most superchargers are in close/walking proximity to dinning and shopping centers, but there are probably exceptions, and as time progresses on, there will be more and more than are not in these key areas.

Speaking of trucks. Ram dropped the 1500 Revolution EV concept yesterday. Violates my "no instrument cluster, no thanks" rule, but it does have some interesting features like passthrough from the front trunk and fully configurable seats, including 3rd row jump seats.
