If you want the best acceleration you need to keep it in first until redline. First will get you past that torque dip faster than any other gear and into the second torque peak.

The second torque peak is higher than the first torque peak and will provide better acceleration. When you shift from 7k in first to second, the needle will drop down almost perfectly into the absolute peak in second gear. By the time you redline in second, you will most likely be speeding since this is 59mph. Shifting slows you down no matter how fast you do it. Fewer shifts = faster acceleration.

I was more interested in accelerating without going that high in the RPM range.

lolwut?

Bonburner, are you talking about "normal" acceleration? aka just left a red light and you want to get up to say.. 40MPH. Or are you talking "I want to out accelerate the car next to me" acceleration / race between the lights?

There is a big difference

Um, that's not how internal combustion engines work.

You want the acceleration, you push the car. This car specifically is designed for high RPM's, so you will not damage anything (given you are past your break-in period).

yeah I'm not interested in hitting +60 mph right after a red light, hit speed limit and cruise for me.
I understand that redlining you'll get the most from cars but I'm not interested in doing that unless its on a track

I feel the torque dip when I feel like there is less pressure on my back from the seat when I'm accelerating - just doesn't feel like I'm hitting higher MPH as fast as I was when I was at the 2-3.5k range

Might be a bit off topic, but I've noticed my 626 has a tendency to take off better from a dead stop than it does from a rolling stop. If someone in front of me is turning and I slow down for them, when I move my foot back to the gas from the brake it hesitates, jolts, then goes, where as if I hit the gas hard from a complete stop it roars and takes off. The transmission takes some getting used to, but I'm pretty good at controlling it.

As for the FR-S, I suspect it will take me a lot of time to get used to it.

Off topic haterade... What's with all the M3 owner hate? People on these forums are always joking about the Z crowd and stuff, but this is making us look at least as bad. Most of my "car stuff" friends are BMW owners and they are awesome people who love my FR-S.
