Well can't go outside without the risk of catching a mexican beer to the face, so I have to do it somewhere.

At my last employer we had a millwright get electrocuted (he ended up just fine) when he pulled two (of 4) extension cords running a plasma cutter apart without shutting off the power. The 600 volt 2 phase cords had been made up to industry standard with molded on plugs and were certified for that type of use. What had happened was that one of the phase wires had come loose and contacted the ground as he pulled them apart. We showed OSHA the quarterly inspection records for the cords, the training records for the inspector and user and the cord certifications. They still charged us with "failure to take every reasonable precaution". Their "reasonable" precaution consisted of presenting instructions for a totally different type of replaceable/removable plug that said to "take apart and inspect internal connections annually". They said that the inspection was an industry standard since it was on that set of instructions even though our cords could not be opened and of course did not include any such procedure. We went to court and no matter how hard we tried the judge just could not grasp the idea that we could not have opened up the cords and inspected them. He even held one of each type in his hand and could not get it. We received a big fine for the ambiguous term of "reasonable precaution" be applied to something that simply was not a reasonable (or even possible) action in our situation.

Another term like that I hate is "meets expectations" in evaluation forms. I explained to our HR rep that as a manager, if I'm doing my job correctly every one of my employees "mets expectations" because I know what to expect from them. So, can't walk inside without walking into the wall or will someday cure cancer through software, either employee I know what they can do and they meet my expectations nearly every day.

Are the meets in canada that different? Why do I get the feeling it involves chains and lead pipes?
Around me car meets are where a bunch of socialy inept nerds meet in a parking lot, introduce each other by fictional names, shake hands, and then uncomfortably discuss the mods all already know about from the build threads for the next 1-4 hours. Canada sure is weird.

I find the people here that know shit aren't going to those meets, and if they are, they're just bored and keep quiet. Maybe I'm jaded, but I'd rather meet people at motorsport events now... even then I'm still picky.

Never understood car meets to just sit around and stroke each others ****s. I bought my car to drive. If you're gonna meet and go for a cruise, I'm game. If you're gonna meet and talk about your 3M faux carbon wrap, I'm out.

I grew up during the heyday of the car culture. Every kid dreamed of getting his drivers license and being able to drive to the local burger stand to meet up with other members of the local "hood lifters society". It's in my blood to meet and talk cars.
We used to have a very active Subaru group in my area. Every three or four weeks we'd organise a "Wing Wednesday" meet up. We'd pick a local bar or grill to try out their B-B-Q wings and talk about everything under the sun. It was mostly car related but garage builds, house improvements, movies, and the like were all discussed. You know, just normal social conversation. We did have weekend drives as well. Plus, every year there'd be a group that conveyed up to the Tall Pines Rally in Bancroft Ont. as well as the Suby Fest at Subaru corporate headquarters. Covid has put all that on hold for now. Even the Toronto-Subaru-Club has pulled the plug on their website as of Jan.1 2021 and now only have a FB page. Times they are a changing! |

Past years it was completely drive focused. 2020 had a bunch of stops with photo spots on a route that eventually led to a food stop. I decided to take the lead for the drive back since since I knew the roads. I paced a spirited drive down the 511 to 9 for people new to the roads. Lots of happy faces when we all stopped to regroup. Weekly/biweekly summer meets are more of a social gathering as many have become friends. |

Wow... didn't expect to start the year getting this report.
Tcoat can be a grumpy old men & might say stuff without sugarcoating, but that doesn't mean can personal threat him. When he didn't personal threat you. He have a glass heart and it's very delicate lmao Joke a side, Tcoat isn't a mod. He doesn't have power to ban. Only personal who have a power is user name is bold and color in Red or Green* *admin's user name is reg black without an bold, so keep an eye on that one. TLDR: Not asking everyone to kumbaya w each other, but don't Yipee ki yay w each other. |
