just discovered this thread and its pretty cool and all but being the camera noob i am im most of this talk is right over my head lol. i got a canon rebel xsi i believe that my mom got about 5 or so years ago and wondering if its outdated and should i upgrade? since im trying to figure this photography stuff out i figured it would do for a beginner but wanted other peoples opinions? dont ask about what lenses cause i have no idea lol but could a different lens have an improvement?

This was actually my first DSLR in 2008. Not a bad camera, but definitely outdated and a beginner model. This is fine to practice on, but low light situations will be a little tough and you won't have a huge resolution. A new lens will make a bigger impact on your image quality than the body, however. Get yourself a 50mm f/1.8 to teach yourself how to user shutterspeed, aperture, iso and then go from there. Whether or not you decide to upgrade is up to you, but if you are just learning the basics it should be fine.

nice pics everyone!!!!

I have a sony A300 as a backup camera and a sony a77MkII with a 70-300mm (150mm-450mm actual), 55mm-200 (110mm-300), 10mm prime 187 degree lens, and my 2000mm lens.

I mostly do landscape/architecture/HDR's and astrophotography.

Taken with Oly M5 ii + 12-100mm f4 lens. This lens is so versatile it never comes off this camera.

These pics were taken at brother's farm. None of us had seen the green butterflies before. Incredibly neurotic, wings constantly flapping, wouldn't sit and stay still, with me racing around the bush looking just as busy. I kept four pics out of about 40 taken.
