Tainen: a DB meter is cheap at radio shack, assuming they still sell them

UncleFester: I'd love to see your results for the stock exhaust!

I doubt anything on the market currently will be as quiet as a Mugen Twinloop or Hytech.

Yes and no. Without the spare the volume would get louder, but the tone on the interior would lessen and be less annoying after 4k rpm or so. So it was like turning down the bass and elevating the treble. Kind of hard to explain.

This was not part throttle or cruise testing, which is what concerns me the most. Perhaps I could do set speed, set rpm tests to figure out what exactly happens. My other tests were done in 6th gear. 4500+ rpm in 6th is likely to be over 100mph.

I had some spare time this afternoon and decided to put the stock muffler back on. I will run it through the same tests tomorrow with the spare installed, then without the spare on Thurs.

Yea they aren't too bad. I bought mine for around $100 on Amazon a while back to test some firearms & supressors.

I'll post up the competely stock results tomorrow evening.

Update: I just got their track pipe in the mail. I'm looking forward to hearing the difference.

Here is completely stock sound levels, with spare. Virtually no exhaust tone is heard in comparison and these readings are predominantly tire/road noise.

Idle with A/C off ~41 dB
Idle with A/C on ~44 dB
Cruise @ 60mph ~56 dB
Cruise @ 75mph ~62 dB
WOT ~76 dB

I've heard before that every +10 dB is about 2x louder. Is this correct?

Something like that, though I believe the scale is far more exponential (logarithmic?) than that.

3 dB = 2x

So basically the 14 dB delta between stock at 60 and the axleback registers as over 4 times louder to the ear?

Installed mine today with the Overpipe/downpipe as well. Honestly its not too loud. Has a nice little growl around 2500-3k but nothing even a casual conversation cant overcome. At highway speeds even the wind noise is louder let alone any music you might be playing.

Overall its alot more quiet than i expected but its dam amazing sounding.
Im hoping the header doesnt make it too much louder.

welp, this thread convinced me to order a nameless axleback last night.

my goals for an exhaust were.. (not necessarily in order of importance)

price - at $550, that's more affordable than the other big name exhaust companies.

quality - 304 stainless steel used on all parts including the hangers. as mentioned earlier by tainen, some companies will go cheap on the hangers and use a more inferior quality steel.

sound/look - the tips fill out the exhaust bumper cutout perfectly. they're not too big and not too small. the stock exhaust is way too quiet, this will add a little growl to the exhaust note.

weight - 16lbs vs OEM weight of 25lbs. other than a track pipe, i haven't seen a lighter aftermarket axleback.

i was not expecting an increase in power. it's just not realistic with only an axleback.

i can't wait for this exhaust to arrive. :happy0180:
