You can / could easily have or setup any or all of that stuff if desired. Given it doesn’t come default with most kits.

SC can have octane maps sure, but need to swap pulleys for psi changes. Not as simple or on the fly as a turbo can be.

So your not bleeding off boost at low/mid range to mirror a SC powerband?

SC's bleed boost; TC's generally build less boost, for the type of control you're talking about.

I spool to 7 psi, rising to about 10.5 psi.

I'm effectively dead even with an Edelbrock or Harrop kit on a standard pulley + ethanol and tune.

Yes, I spent a lot more money to end up at a SC powerband. I can make a meatier powerband, and used to, but it just doesn't make sense to.

I went down the path of a Supercharger but for a track build keep simple. NA+Header+E85+Suspension+Brakes+Oil Cooler. As others have said boost will mask your mistakes and will hinder you from growing a driver.

Assuming its a dedicated track or even weekend warrior build and your trying to develop as a driver in this area then good point/recommendation.

For a daily, canyon, periodic track just for fun, or if you’ve already developed as a driver. FI can be a lot of fun and bridge the gap between a lot more expensive cars.

I’m starting to think OP may have just been dropping a thread troll bomb. Since he MIA after OP.

After owning turbocharged cars, I never thought I would own a supercharged car. Superchargers were so V8 pony/muscle car things, but I love the supercharger. Instant response, and it has to be revved out just like how this car was made to be. It is like having a larger motor, but there is still the feeling of a boosted small displacement motor in how it sounds and how it operates.

It can get frustrating not being able to pass other cars on the straights and hanging on their tails in the corners. NA is fine if you have some space but man would it be nice to have some power once and a while. I don't think I'd go F1 but things change.

Are you able to use 91 octane to get the ~same power of a SC on E85?

I have a few more years before this car becomes full dedicated track car. When it does and I have a tow rig I will go back to boost with a small turbo setup. Low PSI on flex fuel and ramp in the boost so the power band is smooth and linear

No. E85 is magic.

91 octane gets me about the same power as a SC on 91.

I'll likely stay NA for a while yet. It's just part of the game.

Gotta be honest, I find that really hard to believe. A turbo should be noticeably more power, with the same level of tune and octane, when compared to a super charger.

It's simple physics.

- small turbo, so small it's maxed out, and doesn't actually need a wastegate to run safely
- maxed out turbo = out of efficiency island, vs say, a TVS1320 which is in the meat of its powerband
- known data that on a FA20: Whether JRSC, Edelbrock, or TVS, on 91, they make the same power whether you're seeing 9psi or 12 psi

- to supplement my maxed out turbo, I also run a giant giant Garrett intercooler rated for more than double what I need, complete with ducting
- If you saw my pre-intercooler charge temps, you'd probably shit your pants

- I make no more power going higher than 7psi on a 91 octane map, due to diminishing returns on boost vs iat vs octane, so my 91 map peaks at 7 psi. My 91 map at 7 psi (or 10.5 psi if you want to get technical) makes roughly the same power as a JRSC/Edelbrock/Harrop on their standard pulleys.

You're welcome to extrapolate my power using videos.
