In many ways I think automotive styling peaked in the 1990s. After that ever more stringent crash safety requirements, including pedestrian safety, caused too many compromises (e.g. raising bonnet and roof lines, thickening window pillars etc). Just park a 90s Civic next to its 2020 descendent - the new one looks like a freakin SUV by comparison.

The BRZ doesn't have a set availability date and it sounds like pricing is still fuzzy so dealers won't take orders yet. That puts it pretty far out (I heard more like Fall than late Summer). I'm more curious why Subaru decided to do this press release when they aren't ready to take orders.

On an opposite note, the Nissan dealer and somewhere I read on the internet say the 400z will be available in the Spring, but there's still no details available.

Why, who cares what they think? Most of them are too broke to afford a new sports car, and the few who can are probably YT or IG ‘influencers’ or trust fund kids (or both) with terrible taste. Yes and no. Mandated and regulated safety has definitely created some design challenges, but it surely is not all bad, plus, I likely would not be around today if it wasn't for safety standards now in place.

Pedestrians can go screw themselves though. The fact that designs must be compromised due to fools jumping in front of moving steel boxes, or not looking both ways when crossing a damn street is ridiculous.... glorious pop-up lights, how I miss thee. Oh how I can only imagine modern flip light cars would look, just beautiful.

Maybe if you spoke with ER doctors that worked in the 80s to 90's regards to injuries that came in you would realize how ridiculous you sound. Popup headlights look cool but were clearly highly injurious to pedestrians. And when your anatomy is torn to shreds it's irrelevant whether it was the pedestrians fault vs the drivers.
