FLUID FILM!!
WINTER IS COMING!! i obviously watch a lot of Speed Academy videos and they like this undercoating for winter daily drivers. my question is: Is it really ok, and proper practice, to just spray bomb my coilovers, top hats, spherical bearings, and control arms with this stuff?

they just came out with the gen 3 compact m18 3/8, and also the gen 2 mid tourque, and im strongly considering upgrading to one of these. if anyone wants a 4 month old m18 surge fuel hex drive tool only, $100 shipped takes it, looks like $130-$150 new right now.

I want more snow too. Since I bought a winter set of tires for the Evo it hasn't done more than a light dusting. 2 years in a row now.

Wow, I got my single stage paint can from these guys:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Touch-Up-Cu...c/353260745132 This was SO MUCH EASIER to use than the base coat I got the other day. Super forgiving, you can overspray one spot and it won't run. Even when it runs, the metallic flakes stay homogeneous looking instead of running away in a glob. It even cost less money than the base coat can. Finished off my bumper with some Rustoleum clear, which I'm probably doing wrong because the finish isn't anywhere near smooth, but this will still be one of the nicer looking panels on the car so I don't really care anymore. The next owner can sand it smooth and spray it again if they want to. Speaking of snow and rust, I got some Rustoleum rust converter primer, and dabbed it onto all the paint chips on my car with exposed metal. Only a very thin coat is sticking, but better than having bare metal, I figure. Rust converter is I think phosphoric acid, turning the rust into iron phosphate which is less water soluble and flaky. My random guess is it's better to first coat the metal in primer so it has an extra solid physical layer, then oil on top will repel water. |

Fluid film works. Started using it on farm equipment years ago. Equipment that sits in the fields for most of the year used to rust and the bolts would seas up. This stuff protects like nothing other. It is lanolin based and is self healing to an extent. A number of companies buy it in 55 gal drums and under coat their plow trucks with it. I am told that a hot pressure washer or steam jenny will clean it off.
I use it on exposed hydraulic rams and screw jacks all the time. I have never used it on the under side of my cars but should work. |
