Sadly, we already know the GR Yaris isn't coming to the US. We're getting a GR Corolla instead.

I don’t know of any GR 86 that was sold here. And I wasn’t referring to what Toyota is calling the 2nd gen 86. Maybe it will have a similar approach as the GR Yaris and have a bunch of upgrades/unique parts. Does anyone really think that will happen? I don’t care what the hell they call it if it’s an actual attempt at making the car better. I was probably a little too harsh about the 86 TRD. It does have some nice performance upgrades, and some purely cosmetic stuff. I just know that Toyota is capable of so much more, if they cared enough.

My gut tells me they are going to also put the GR label on the 86, without any real upgrades over the standard car. The GR Yaris is very different than the base platform. I don’t know as much about the GR Corolla. It’s a really good starting point that could be a very capable performer. It would be nice to see a Corolla that could compete with at least the Civic Si. Is that too much to ask? I know a Civic Type R competitor is out of the question.

I think the standard car will be called the GR 86, just as the standard Supra is a GR Supra. The GR Yaris being a hipo special is a bit different, as there is a standard Yaris too. With the 86 and Supra, they market the whole range as being ‘GR’ now.

If they do a special souped up version of the new GR 86 it may be a ‘GRMN’ but I would not expect any more power. Probably be another ‘handling’ upgrade so suspension, brakes and tyres.

Did someone say THREE CYLINDERS. Don't look whilst I look away and chuckle.

Does it have a balance shaft ? Does it have an unlimited miles/years warranty ?

3 cylinder engines have been around for awhile. Much more prevalent in motorcycles but becoming a lot more common in cars these days

To say they were banned in today's context is not accurate.

Canada does not have and to the best of my knowledge never had these rules. We have had auto dimming headlights for years, there have been the turning ones since at least 2015. They are not in any way "banned".

The GR Yaris seems to be a truly impressive car with a great engine. I don’t think it is the right character for an 86/BRZ, but it seems awesome for a small hot hatch.

Here is an experienced ‘Ring driver whipping his around much faster cars... and giggling while doing so.

None of that negates my original comment.

I never said they were banned in today’s context. I said the technology dates back to the ‘60s, and was banned back in the ‘70s in the North American market.

actually it goes back further than that. the '48 Tucker had a steerable headlight, although it was a third light not the primary pair.
