Dadhawk, I could have used the 1939 Royal Tour McLaughlin Buick which if I remember was closer to 250" long. But, as only two were built I stayed with the relatively higher production V16. As for nostalgia, I road in the this Royal Tour Buick many times when it was owned by the Norton family of Oshawa Ont. (Talk about needing 40 acres to turn it around...)
Photos were taken by my father at an old car meet in Janetville Ont. mid 60's. Our yellow 1934 La Salle convertible coupe is in the second photo showing just how big the McLaughlin Buick was. (note, both cars were built in Oshawa)

I know the history of measure. That is irrelevant to using 1930s car specs when we have perfectly good 1970s one!

Oh, yes, septic systems. The wipes will "flush" alright, but they may build up and possibly clog the drains to the septic tank/leaching fields -

Advantage of using the corn cobs is that you will never have hemorrhoids, at least not for long -

Well, not quite, most of the $400 went to buy "stuff" for the 3 granddaughters to eat. One can polish off a "family size" box of cookies in one sitting. Another one can eat up a crate of berries in a day. The 4 ager just eats everything in sight all the time.

For years, I had a bathroom decoration that looked like an emergency firebox with the "break glass in emergency" that had three cobs with those instructions written on the glass.

It was a compromise with MomHawk because our master bath has a "water closet" that is just wider than the toilet. I wanted to decorate the inside with barn wood, and replace the door with a half moon barn wood door.

She vetoed my decorating ideas but gave me the decoration as a compromise. One of our kids later knocked it off the wall and broke it, or..well..that is at least what MomHawk claimed.

Wonder how many people here ever had to use one of those on a regular basis. It was all my grandparents in Quebec had until well into the 70s so I am very familiar with it. Thank god we never visited in the winter though!

In the early 70's my Grandparents bought a farm that had no running water in the main house. It had a nice two seat outhouse. Even after they updated the plumbing, the outhouse stood for years, in fact my Grandfather preferred it, much to the chagrin of my Grandmother.

One day, when he and I had been in town getting feed, we came home to find it a smoldering heap of ashes. My Grandmother swore my Grandfather must have left a burning cigarette or something in it, she had no idea how it caught on fire.

My Grandfather just grunted and went on about his business. The next summer though he did build a replacement out of field stone a little further from the house.

Some of their neighbors did not have plumbing well into the 90's, mostly by choice as there was municipal water run down their rural road in the mid 80's.

They had had running water for years but my grandfather just did not want anything to do with a flush toilet. He never said why (he rarely said much of anything actually). In July 79 when I was there on leave on my return from Lebanon somebody (it was NOT me) lit up some fireworks inside it. It also burned to the ground. He just sort of grunted and used the indoor one from then on.
Makes me wonder how many of those things burned down!

We had one on the farm that we had to use if we had a summer drought and the cistern drew down. Everyone except my mother who refused and used the flush toilet in the house. She would save up her egg money and have a tanker bring a load of water from town about once a year.

Yep, I recall sweeping the seat for spiders before using and dumping a cup of lye down the whole if you did a #2, after you finished.

Was it a two-seater? You learn a lot of social skills in a two seater.

Nooooo....... it was just a one holer, so, I missed out on acquiring those social skills, till I got into the Army.
