Nicest thing about jumping from an 08 Si to this is.... not ever having had those features


(I've been in cars with heated seats. They make me feel like I'm taking a dump in my pants. No thanks! lol)

I ent from 8 years with two top trim, fully loaded Lancers to the FRS. I pretty much had convinced myself that I was fine with the "bare bones" comforts. Then I got the Hakone and realized that I had been deluding myself for 6 years!
I as well will not use the heated seats but because I think it is ore like pissing yourself but basically the same theme.

Now having said that I did spend much of my driving life with cars that had no power brakes, steering or anything else. Some even had vacuum powered windshield wipers and tube AM only radios. Let's not even go down the bias ply tire road. So even the modern bare bones base models are luxurious.

I had an early 90s civic with no power steering at one point and that's just a forearm exercise in parking lots lol.



Some amenities have definitely been fantastic adds but some are just frivolous at this point. It was 28* when I left the house this morning and I'd still never go for seats that feel like i crapped myself.

And thanks... I had to look up vacuum powered windshield wipers LOL

Daily drivers (all year not summer only cars) 1981 to 1984 and 1998 to 2002


Vacuum powered wipers were a blast. You would step on the gas and the vacuum would all be used to advance the distributer and the wipers would stop dead. You would take your foot off the gas and they would go like hell. If you were at high enough RPMs and the vacuum built up enough when you took your foot off the gas they would start up so hard that one would get flung off into space never to be seen again. The are probably a couple of 9 inch wiper blades still in low level orbit!

Being born in 81, I'm kind of glad I missed out lol. I had read that online too. Driving up a hill and the wipers would stop. Absolutely hilarious.

Being born in '21, I'm kind of glad I missed out lol. That popped up in my brain feed today too. Having to drive the car manually, steering it myself and (gasp) having to stop the car on my own. And what are "gears" anyway? Absolutely terrifying
