I say this having driven mine alongside my '11 Cayman 2.9 on the street and at the track last year. I kept the car I liked best between those two, and it wasn't really even close!

I get a surprising amount of positive feedback from "non-car" people. I think these cars have made and continue to make a good impression.

Anyway, the whole world is about to change, at least we get one more generation of these, hopefully better in most ways. Actually I just hope the weight gain is minimal (or nonexistent). Looking forward to tomorrow's news
Sorry, I should have articulated this better, I meant that these cars just felt separate from the lineup in that it didn't spark interest in the other cars. But yes, the cars in themselves are interesting, and a decade or two from now people will then love these cars. Funny how that works right.

And I agree with you as well, it's largely the reason why I'm here anxiously looking for any leaks. You know my car history as well, and yet here I am. I had a good long while to think about what I wanted next, and I keep coming back to this car, NA and all. I just hope beyond hope they refine the engine to be more endearing, much like what Mazda did with the ND2.

Ugh, why are there no leaks? Something, anything, an impression hype video, anything.

All the bumpers on the latest batch of mules look the same to me. Which one exactly do you mean?

^^^ yep - side air curtain/vent designs are a bit different, but the corner of the grill itself should be seen in the little teaser if that mule wearing camo is in fact the brz. seems like the brz will have a sleeker grill and toyota continue their obsession with big grillz :p

i mean i guess there is a chance that the mule testing against the stang was wearing fake bumper or was using a previous design that ended up getting tossed out but i doubt it. the one against the stang definitely seems very toyota to me.

Totally. Save for the S2000, haven't ever had the privilege of driving an RX7.

Have lightly driven many other sports cars, though, in different categories (including at a significantly higher price point) and there's something really great about how the 86 feels, especially with the 2017 refinements.

Same here. I can't quite put my finger on it but attributed that to the camo throwing my perception off. Also wanted to wait until we see the BRZ reveal tomorrow when they presumably show the car in different angles.

I know this was discussed but much must be attributed to prestige. If you were one to care what other people think of what you drive, would you expect everyone to think a boosted twin is superior to a Supra? I assume there is a significant portion which buy a Supra with the expectation that they aren’t going to track or race it.

If your in-laws were coming over for thanksgiving and saw you had a top tier camaro or a corvette, which would you prefer? Likewise, if I was in such a position, I would prefer my wife’s uncle not think I was a hairdresser in my brz and whatever one does who drives a Supra.

Appearances matter in certain contexts, but if driving a new-ish $30k fun car is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Hey, being a hairdresser wasn't so bad for Warren Beatty in the movie Shampoo.

People would have to notice me first to then notice what I drive!

But if I were one to value what others think over financial stability, I would be looking at the likes of a Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW, McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, or Porsche.

I would never entertain the concept of owning a lowly commoner brand like toyota or chevy under those circumstances.

That’s about as big a compliment to the current gen I’ve read considering what you’ve owned in the past. It’s funny I always look at other cars and think the grass could be greener etc. maybe not based on that.

Yep looking forward to the big reveal, 1:00 AM November 19th for Aussies in the eastern states. Guess I’ll see the several 100 posts the next morning lol.

However, I'm visiting a family member who's worked at Toyota Corporate/headquarters for 35 years. Not sure if this information has been talked about, but he has informed me on the following regarding the second generation FR-S/BRZ

-He has seen early renders and said they look incredible
- The engine will be borrowed the current Subaru Ascent (2.4L, 4-cyclinder)
- however will be bumped up to 280hp (vs 260hp in the base Ascent)
-The BRZ Version will be the only one that will have an optional turbocharger. Unknown if Toyota will offer later

I'll try and get more info out of my family member. But thoughts? Has this info already been discovered or discussed?

Not even close.
As said before the 2.4 part was common news before this thread was ever started.
Now confirmed that the rest of the "inside info" was totally bogus.
Whether it "looks incredible" remains subjective with many thinking it looks like crap and other that love it.
