Subaru claims that they eyesight only works with the CVT. If they put eyesight in the auto BRZ, a CVT is highly likely.

The Honda was typical CVT, no shifts, stays at redline as you accelerate, makes the CVT drone that you cant get away from (i think its more just high RPM constant buzzing than drone)

I didnt mind them honestly, but they were pretty lifeless.

This is my point. Everybody refers to CVT as if they were all the same. They are not.

They did a nice job of it in the Impreza. They will need to appease us old folks that freak out when a tranny doesn't "shift" for a bit longer. The electric car users won't be freaked out by no shifts so that may happen soon.

That's because the only cars with eyesight (up to this point) have had CVTs as the automatic transmission option. Eyesight doesn't have any technical dependency on a CVT.

I will be shocked if they put a CVT in the BRZ. Subaru's CVTs are all designed for their symmetric AWD system. The front and center differentials are contained within the transmission housing. There's no way they'd package that in a small RWD coupe. And there is no way they are developing a new CVT transmission for this low volume niche car; there are viable torque converter transmissions already available for RWD platforms.

This ^
But if they DID use one it isn't likely the crap people associate with CVT

Didn't think about it that way... You have a really good point.

If a low-loss CVT could be developed to allow me to stay at peak-power rpm from every corner exit to every subsequent braking zone, with added benefit of no time lost to upshifts, I'm all for it. Even if it sounds craptastic!

And the only thing you will have right was the 2.4 which was already a common statement for a year before you posted.
Oh and the "looks awesome" which of course is totally subjective and not supportable.
The rest will prove to be the bull we called it right from the start.

To be honest I'm surprised we are getting a 2nd gen at all. Happy, but surprised. I just hope it is exciting enough for new buyers to want a 2nd gen instead of a used 1st gen, and doesn't stray far from the path laid out by the 1st gen. The 1st gen was/is a fantastic platform for enthusiasts: relatively inexpensive, low consumable costs, fantastic handling out of the box, exceptional ergonomics (driving position, controls, seats, visibility, etc), reliable and easy to work on, practical storage for its size.

After owning the 1st gen for 6 years and having done 100+ autox events, if it is basically the same but with "slightly more", I'm not sure I'd get one. The 400Z or manual Supra might be more what I'm looking for. I'm still satisfied with my BRZ as my fun car and GTI as highway/practical car; it would take something surprising to convince me to get a new one.

Even after tomorrow, I think there will be many un-answered questions.
- What does the Toyota version look like and what are the differences?
- What markets will the different models/trims be sold in?
- Will there be high performance trims in the future (STi/GR etc). If not announced tomorrow, will there be a future Performance Pack trim?
- How does it actually compare to the 1st gen in terms of driving feel, feedback, visibility, ergonomics, etc.

Eh... we just need to slow down. One step at a time. Of course questions won't be answered. Tomorrow will still be a big reveal. I think people have just anticipated and questioned so much in the past couple years about this next gen, that they're bored of what they are about to find out and already want to know what the end story of the 2nd gen will be. I like surprises.
