Thank you. You nailed it exactly.
I too couldn't care less about which one is 'faster' by the dreaded 'numbers', 0-60, 5-60, 1/4 mile, Nurburgring lap times, or how fast an automated DCT can shift in only 0.0000057 nanoseconds, etc. For me the only thing that matters is which one is more fun for me to drive. And that means a manual transmission is an absolute must-have deal-breaker (for as long as my distressingly aging body and slowly deteriorating arthritic hips can manage it). Automated, fully-autonomous electric-powered soulless pods are the future of transportation. They might make sense in some dystopian way, but for now, let's enjoy the fun cars that are left. They won't be around forever. |

Need a cold air intake and header though. The fact the car already has these is irrelevant since the aftermarket manufacturer assures me they magically get 40 more HP out of theirs.

My BMW X1 auto is very quick and responsive with the paddles (aisin 8 speed) I could care less about the shift speed. To me it was all about how fast its response is via paddles (is there a delay between flicking the paddle and the auto actually shifting?). And the BMW is very good with it, and even the 86 auto i test drove long ago was pretty good at it. But they dont replace manual for me. It feels very...."thats it?" and just as engaging as not even using them, which is why i dont even use them when i drive the X1 around. |

UP TO 40% MORE POWER!
Just by spinning the air where it doesn't even get sucked in to start with. I am going to get three so I can get over 300HP This is how the car should have come from the factory.

100% this is staying NA.
Given Subarus love of top mounted intercoolers there is no bonnet vent on the BRZ. Then from the spy shots you can see the radiator in the same position as before so unlikely to have a front mount stacked somewhere in there. Calipers and rotors are the same size which is extremely unlikely for something which is going to have 260bhp. Tyres aren't really any wider either. |

Yeah, all that might make financial sense - sometimes, with some 'but's' and 'if's' - but car manufacturers don't build cars for the used market. They only make money on the new cars they sell. If every enthusiast who wanted a stick only bought used cars, there wouldn't be any more manuals made anymore. Yes, a new car usually costs more than a used one. But, there are other things to consider. Pretty much every time I've gone out to buy a car I've started by perusing the usual on-line cars-for-sale sites, thinking I'd buy used to 'save a few bucks', and most of the time I've ended up buying new (except when the car is out of production and only available used, like the S2000 or RX8). Some things to think about in the new vs used equation - 1. The old saying is often true. When you buy a used car, you often are buying someone else's problems. I've occasionally snagged the proverbial 'little old lady's car who only drive it to the market on Sunday's' in pristine condition and with incredibly low miles (like a mint 1965 Plymouth Valiant I once picked up with 9k miles), but how many of those are really out there? When I think about some of the cars I've sold with their issues... 2. Sports/performance cars tend to be driven hard by many (most?) owners. How many people actually break in a car carefully, vs. how many beat the crap out of it right off the dealer's lot? Even buying a late-model used car you're inheriting how the previous owner not only drive it but broke it in. 3. It's shocking to me how many even late-model used cars out there have been in accidents. Let's face it - people who drive, er, 'aggressively' seem to get into accidents more often. CarFax is a great resource, but not always accurate. I've seen so many used cars for sale with clean CarFax reports but obvious accident repair. While of course it's possible to do repairs properly, the vast majority of work I've seen has not been to the standards I'd want. It's astonishing what some body shops will do to save a few bucks or some time. I've seen truly incredible, and appalling, things done with bondo. Even if it seems to be done right, my own experiences are that spot-painting either never matches quite right, or holds up over time. Every time I've had body work done, the painted spots always look different at some point down the road (no pun intended). 4. Many drivers just don't take care of their cars. Most of the used cars I've looked at in recent years don't have maintenance records. Even in private sales, when I ask the owner about oil changes etc., the seller gets a glassy-eyed look and mumbles something about 'doing it as often as the manual said'. But no receipts. This seems to be even more of a problem with leased cars. So many owners just don't care. They don't 'own' the car, they plan to turn it back after 3 years, so why bother taking care of it? Even when the maintenance is included with the warranty or lease, they can't seem to be troubled to take the time to bring it in. Do you really want a car that might only have 20k miles but still has its original oil fill from the manufacturer? 5. Buying new can get you more choice of color and options. I specifically wanted a red BRZ and only a red BRZ. Add to that wanting one with low miles, a stick, no accidents, having maintenance records, and the other options I wanted, and over a few months of looking exactly 2 cars turned up on national searches. I didn't feel like traveling 1,500 miles to see the closest one, knowing the odds were it would turn out to have issues, and I'm not comfortable buying a car sight unseen and trusting the seller to honestly represent it and then arrange shipping. 6. With popular models, sometimes you don't save as much money as you might think. BRZs/86s seem to have fairly healthy depreciation, but I've been astonished how so many late-model Hondas and other Subarus seem to sell for not far off their cost new. With all the other risk factors, I personally would rather pay a little more for both the peace of mind and getting my pick and choice. YMMV. All of this is totally a personal decision. Some people don't care as much about color, options, etc., or are happy to make trade-offs to save a little money. I'll try to keep voting with my own wallet for sticks, for as long as cars I want are made with them, that I can afford, and that my slowly decaying body can still drive. |

Just think, all the influencers and so-called journalists are watching presentations about the new BRZ right now, and then are going for a drive, so they can make a youtube video for us to watch tomorrow morning.

The embargo ends tomorrow at 9AM eastern, so anyone posting content before then won't be returning for future product announcements. These youtubers rely entirely on the manufacturers for access to press fleets and product announcements; if they lose that access, they'll lose views.
