I see nothing wrong with the Corolla's size. I really like the way the hatchbacks look. Sure it would be nice if the Corolla was smaller, but cars just keep getting bigger, so it is what it is.

I would consider a Mini Cooper JCW. Should they try to transpose that on their countryman, I’d rather have the base model mini cooper.

A Mini JCW (at least where I am) is no less than $36k, with most of them being well into the $40k range. Along with expensive labor costs and maintenance, and cliche reliability with BMW motors, that would be a silly comparison. I'm not saying a GR Corolla or Yaris in the states would be cheap, but it aint gonna be THAT expensive. As well, the cost of ownership will be substantially less.

Can't argue with the cost of ownership between a hot Toyota and a hot BMiniW, though. |

Are we not forgetting one crucial point here, the Yaris GR only exists because Toyota needed to homologate the rally car. If they were racing the larger Corolla platform then we would have had something similar but only bigger.
Toyota also making noises about building more than the 24k currently planned.. Seems like they have hit the right spot.. Last edited by JD001; 11-11-2020 at 05:21 AM. |

That’s great, I hope their tooling can facilitate bringing the GR4 to a wider audience as a last hurrah to ICE cars.
I just don’t think that the Corolla (is their a hatch and sedan?) will be anywhere near an equivalent to a GR4. The same thought occurs to me with a Camry trd. Sure it’s capable and looks better than a base Camry but if you’re intending to use it like you would a twin you’ll be comparing apples and oranges right? That’s my whole point with this Yaris being transposed to a Corolla. Apples and oranges. |

Don't hold your breath, a Yaris GR4 would not sell well in the America's. A corolla is more likely to sell better as everyone here seems to have the confusion that the greater the size the better the vehicle. If a GR corolla is to become a reality expect it to compete in the area of Civic Si/Golf GTI. If it were to be a GR4* corolla, good luck competing with the CTR, the only thing that has a chance right now would be an even higher trim Veloster N which doesn't exist(or tuned/modded current N), or the yet debuted 2022 STi; strictly speaking performance.

For me it's not the size, it's the weight, and you're not adding any more power without adding the weight to the driveline to handle it. That's what's awesome about the GR Yaris, it's so damn light. Quote:
TNGA-C platform that underpins the Corolla doesn't accept a V6 as far as I can tell sooo, while interesting as a concept (more so then the veloster N or Si competitor that's likely to be in development) I don't think Toyota is willing to build an STI/GolfR/CTR competitor while already carrying two low selling cars in the 86 and Supra. Quote:
Toyota doesn't have a good engine for this niche though except the 8AR-FTS in the current IS300 making 244 horses, so I expect it'll be Veloster N price for Civic Si performance, heavier then both, middling horsepower. |

So the chassis may not have been designed to accommodate a V6 but it wouldnt stop them from trying (also like the Lexus ISF, i dont think the IS Variant of that chassis was designed to accomodate a V8) |

This is perhaps my biggest annoyance about modern cars in general. They’ve just gotten so damn big - tall, wide, long, and fat. I hate the fact so many people fall for the idea bigger is better. Meanwhile, our roads, garages and car parking spaces aren’t getting any bigger!

I think I want one of these, haven’t been this excited about a car, since, well the twins. I said to my wife, “this looks pretty good”. Her response, “get one if you want, you’d have to trade in the BRZ”. I was thinking in addition to....
Hmmm, considering her car is an ‘08 Mazda 3 SP23, (the workhorse), she’s due for a new car before me anyway.Another review, the guy gets overly excited, but can’t blame him I guess. Sport mode is 30/70 split too, almost RWD, so cool. Last edited by Dirty Harry; 11-14-2020 at 02:17 AM. |
