^ I’m not really seeing the FTO resemblance, although that is a really cool car. The FTO looks more bloated to me.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2nd gen twins have some more aluminum pieces in the suspension design, lighter brakes/wheels, and possibly even the carbon/composite roof like on the GR Yaris. That could lighten the car by quite a bit, and would offset a heavier engine and diff. They are promising a lower COG so that could be a way to do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

you're absolutely right, it could have all those things. but it could also have none of those things.

The industry hasn't stood still since the last model was designed. Aluminum and composites are far more common (and cheaper) now than a decade ago. I hope the next gen makes use of lighter materials to keep the overall weight about the same as the first generation. Some realistic examples of weight saving opportunities are: - Aluminum front lower control arms and knuckles; both are very common in $30k+ cars now. - Aluminum roof panel; these can be bonded directly to steel - FRP trunk; the Supra and Corolla hatch both have FRP liftbacks. Many full size trucks now at least offer a composite tailgate. - Aluminum front fenders; many cars have these now, including the similarly-priced ND miata. None of the above changes would require any fundamental changes to the existing vehicle platform. If they are making significant platform changes, additional use of high-strength steel is likely.

I certainly don't expect it to weigh less. I'll be happy if it is less than 100lbs heavier. Most cars get heavier and bigger in each subsequent generation. The ND stands out for getting smaller and lighter. The 370Z was also lighter than the 350Z when it launched (comparing similar trim levels). Hopefully we get some published weight specs on the 18th.

How hard are you squinting to get that? Placement? You mean on the front of the car in the corners? Like every other car made? Why are you using a render that isn't accurate to the one singe thing we actually know?

I agree there is absolutely NO resemblance to the FTO to me personally.
As far as weight with the new car I also agree that the probability of a slight increase to me is almost a given with the added safety features supposedly being implemented into the new gen. I’m still hoping for a sub 3000lb car again, as stated above hopefully the unveiling answers these questions for us

The 2.0 sounds nice enough. For $60K, I'm not so sure I'd be overly thrilled, but at the same time, it is faster than the older Cayman S models with the larger flat 6. |

Just for reference, the current 86’s headlights are more acute triangles and less exposed from the top than what the render looks like to some:

The Cayman S with the 2.5 H4 is arguably the faster and better car to get than the GTS with the 4.0 H6. Between the tuning potential and the low end torque, it will perform better, especially considering the long gears, but it would be hard to pass up a high revving NA H6, even if it is less usable just for the character, sound, NA response and need to work the motor.
