Thoughts on ACT HD Clutch
Hello everybody,
So I've hit that inevitable point when my throwout bearing is starting to go bad and I figure I might as well replace my clutch while I'm getting the TOB replaced. I've had experience with the Exedy Stage 2 Clutch and that thing chattered like crazy so I don't want to go that route again. This time around I'm leaning towards the ACT HD/Perf Street Sprung Clutch Kit with the Streetlite Flywheel (SB7-HDSS). I was wondering if any club members who have had this clutch kit could tell me about the amount of chatter this kit causes. |

Most of the forum posts discussing that specific ACT clutch are people that either run the Prolite flywheel or are still in the process of breaking it in.

yup. literally every thread about a clutch not disengaging 500 miles after newly installed seems to be an ACT model.

I have the ACT SB7-XTSS, no issues. I did get the velox shift fork and ball installed when I swapped it out. Make sure you use a new TOB, not what comes in the box. The plastic clutch alignment tool in the kit is garbage, if you use that I wouldn't be surprised people had issues after 500 miles. I am going on several thousand miles without issue. If I drive for 60+ miles it will start to chatter at idle, not a big deal, get your tuner to up your RPMs at idle. Don't go with the prolite, get the *normal* FW, it's still half the weight of your stock flyhweel.

Any competent mechanic should have a metal alignment tool for the clutch. The plastic one provided is garbage. They'd be better off just not providing one at all.
Virtually every issue I've seen with the ACT clutches are installation related. IMO, the ACT is the best bang for the buck clutch. If you want to do a fork upgrade, and TOB upgrade (!!!!), OS Giken is the way to go. |

Yeah, can't go wrong with the ACT HD. Had it in my car before I switched to a lighter flywheel. Now running the Sachs Performance setup, with Exedy LWFW.
Although both have similar clamping force, the HD is prob better if you DD the car, as the pedal effort is considerably lighter due to the design. Plus, a great price!
