Hmm, well there are two spots where you get the most torque .. from 2-3k and 5-7k.
It's pretty important to stay in that zone if you ask me .. if you're looking to pull away quickly without going crazy RPMs then stay at 2-3k.
If you're willing to hit 5-7k be my guest.

Also when I shift it doesn't take long to shift, its just during the Neutral (when out of a gear) I keep a light pressure on the gas so I can keep the RPM from dipping by any really measurable means.
Once I'm about to shift into the gear I let off that pressure temporarily and immediately apply gas as I let off the clutch

Regarding when I engage I can't really say .. maybe consistently around 1.8k, I never checked.
I personally don't find too much engine speed drop because I never Fully let off the gas until the shifter is right about to go into the 'socket'.
That's when I do a soft reversed blip where I let off the gas and clutch and then get on the gas immediately .. may not be the best way but for some reason I find myself doing this.

Even if he is talking about the smoothest way to make a shift it still doen't make any sense.

He doesn't take his foot off the gas until he's moving the shifter into the next gear? What? Powershifting is the least smooth way to do it. What the fuck is a reverse blip?

I'm almost sure he was talking about the fastest way to accerate the car. Why else would he mention a torque spike at 3k RPM?

The torque zones are irrelevant.

Shifting at 1k will always be slower than shifting at 2k, which is slower than 3k, which is lower than 4k, which is slower than 5k, which is slower than redline. Period.

Keeping your foot on the gas durring the shift is a great way to kill your clutch and great for nothing else.

I just shift to keep myself at the lower torque ranges.
I made up that reverse blip terminology because I let off the gas for a very short period.
I reduce the pressure on my gas peddle when I hit the clutch to shift up but I don't completely release it.
Are you telling me that this is killing my clutch?

How do you guys normally accelerate and up-shift to keep up with the quicker cars from a dead stop? I normally up-shift to second really quick (less than 10mph) and throttle a little harder in second for a little longer - is this the wrong technique? Is the best way to accelerate, to throttle hard and up-shift at later rpms?

set your rev light to 7400, then upshift only when it flashes!

M3 driver is likely to have more money to buy more rounds

About as worthwhile as your advice even after others attempted to correct you.
